Westhampton Juniors Tapped Into Mortar Board Honor

Eight Westhampton juniors were tapped into Mortar Board the national honorary leadership society for women in a Chapel ceremony. Named were Leta May Tucker Dottie Stiff Marilyn Sorce Betty Lou Kendall Eliza Hubble Helen Crittenden Jean Burroughs Carolyn Baker and Alice Greath led the ceremony with Mortar Board alumnae hosting a reception for members and parents in Keller Hall.

UR Law Graduate Named to Va FCC Appointment

Herbert T. Williams III was named law clerk to Judge Sterling Hutcheson of the Eastern District of Virginia. The Richmond native attends T. M. Williams School of Law and graduates in June after Hampden-Sydney College and University of Richmond. He will assume the position July first.

University Glee Club to Joint Concert with Randolph-Macon Women

The University of Richmond Glee Club and Randolph Macon Women's College 75 voice choir join for a Friday night concert at WRVA Theatre Richmond. It features Bach Beethovens and Wagner with tickets at Miller Rhoads Thalhimers and from members for one dollar.

University of Richmond Debaters Win Browning Trophy at North South

The UR debate team won the Chauncey Browning Trophy again, besting southern rivals at West Virginia University’s North South Tournament. Northern teams included Harvard Rutgers Princeton NYU and Notre Dame, while UR defeated Duke North Carolina George Washington Georgetown and West Virginia. Hodder and West beat Harvard. Bush and West earned top honors in their events. Hodder will not return next year. Burkat and West are new debaters.

Red Cross Drive Seeks Support This March

The Red Cross launches its annual drive from March 1 to 18 urging contributions. It highlights ongoing emergency aid work in war and peace and appeals to college students to donate to fund fast, efficient service.

University honors elect members to three honorary fraternities

One professor and ten students from four divisions of the University are elected to Omicron Delta Kappa Pi Delta Epsilon and Tau Kappa Alpha. Elected to ODK were Seymour Horowitz and James Sipe PDE honorees include Carolyn Baker Ann Stuart Hartz Joe Hutchinson Dick Keith Don Lytal Buddy Stump and George Tidey. Dr John M Kuhlman and Dick Keith were elected to TKA. Dr Kuhlman is an economics instructor in the Business School and holds degrees from Washington State University and Wisconsin. He is active in professional groups and praised for inspiring clear speech and leadership. Horowitz from the TGC Williams School of Law earned a B A at Richmond College and holds Phi Beta Kappa and other honors. Sipe of Richmond College has held student government posts and varsity football membership. PDE honors student journalists for work on campus publications.

Second Ballot Nominees For Westhampton Student Elections

Westhampton students will vote on Monday March 14 in the second ballot for College Government YWCA and Athletic Association posts. Web Collegian and Web Receive VIPA Awards at Washington and Lee

After two days of meetings, awards, and speeches, the Virginia Intercollegiate Press Association honored Richmond College publications and officers. The Web placed second behind The Bomb, VMIs yearbook, while the Collegian took third. new VIPA officers include Stump as public relations director, Zitz as president, Layman as vice president, Lenoff as secretary treasurer, and Smith on the executive committee. The association also saluted executive secretary Robert H. McNeil for his long service and pending resignation due to vision issues.
