Quint Faces Big Series of Games in Coming Week

The Spider basketball squad braces for a tough week with games against William and Mary, the University of Virginia, Lynchburg College and Washington and Lee on foreign courts. Richmond likely confronts the hardest portion of its schedule as the slate includes multiple strong rivals away from home.

Alumnae Present Two One Act Plays Tonight

The Westhampton Alumnae Association directed by Miss Thelma Hill presents two one act plays at the Westhampton Red Cross Building. The Curtain Rises by Louise Burleigh of Richmond follows a star on her first night with backstage trials. Cast includes Peggy Butterfield Wardrobe Mistress Jessie Ware and Pinkie Atwill.

Glee Club Plans Three Concerts in Spring Session

The University Glee Club announces three spring concerts including one on campus one in Richmond and a third in a nearby city. Richmond College students may gain free admission to the first show. Dr. Emil Saverio directs the group which meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 pm.

Westhampton Baptists Plan Church Enlargement

At the annual meeting Westhampton Baptist Church discussed enlarging the church campus. A fifty foot lot behind the current building was purchased to provide space for the growing congregation.

Letters of Lee and Jackson in Curry Collection

The Baptist Historical Society staged a chapel program on January 18 announcing a new collection of letters by Lee Jackson and Stuart read by Dr. Ryland. Dr. Curry donated letters from his collection, including Jackson and Lee, with Curry a former Confederate Congress member and later English professor in Richmond.

Annual Virginia Declamation Contest Set at Richmond

High schools statewide prepare to send representatives to the Annual High School and Secondary School Declamation Contest at the University of Richmond on February 22. More than twenty students competed last year and a larger turnout is anticipated. Participants are urged to register early and await judge announcements.

Mission Study Classes Planned

Five mission study classes will be held this term to survey conditions in mission areas. Sessions convene each Tuesday evening for six weeks beginning January 22. Limited material and unavailable foreign magazines constrain the scope.

Dramatic Club Chooses Between Two One Act Plays

The Dramatic Club met to select a play for this term. They narrowed to The Famous Mrs. Fair or Charm School and expect to present several one act plays in the spring term, with The Famous Mrs. Fair favored.

John Stewart Bryan Elected President of Local League Body

John Stewart Bryan of The News Leader was elected president of the Friends of the League of Nations at a Richmond YMCA meeting on Monday. Thomas B. McAdams, University of Richmond alumnus and trustee, was elected treasurer and custodian of funds. A committee was formed to incorporate the group in Virginia. the movement began in the Second Baptist Church class and gained provincial support from Richmond's Ministerial Union the next day.

NYU to Broadcast Debate With University of Richmond

New York University will broadcast a debate with the University of Richmond on the World Court question in New York City on March 27. The preliminary January 29 at 4 PM in the chapel auditorium will decide if a second preliminary is needed based on turnout. Richmond defends the negative side.

Jaspers Plan Annual Banquet Details Set

The Ministerial Association of the University of Richmond plans its annual banquet for February 1. The date was decided at the last meeting, with the committee on banquet arrangements to report its venue and timing soon.

Outline Plans For Annual Banquet At Assembly of Freshman Class

A freshman class meeting in Chapel discussed the Rat Banquet and an aim for 100 percent participation in some activity. Plans are not finalized but the banquet is expected around February 15. A general committee from rat classes on both shores is working to ensure success.
