Freshman Editorial Contest Announced by Pi Delta Psi

Pi Delta Psi announces its annual Freshman Editorial Contest. Submissions open February 1 1931 and run to April 4 1931. Manuscripts must be under 550 words, typed or inked, unsigned with a sealed envelope showing the entrant’s name and editorial title. Default topic is educational matters.

Westhampton Students Vote to Join Federation

At a January 13 meeting Westhampton students voted to affiliate with the National Student Federation of America. Mary Hicks and Elizabeth Fugate reported on the Atlanta conference and urged joining the federation while withdrawing from the Southern Conference for College Women. Delegates will attend future meetings of the federation and the Women's Intercollegiate Association.

Last Opportunity For School Photos At Dementi Studio

The Web announces a final chance for students without yearbook photographs to have portraits taken at Dementi's Studio through Saturday January 31. The photographer will finish work by the end of next week. Students must contact H. A. Stephenson Jr. business manager to pay the required fees.

The Richmond World Organization of International Relation Clubs will not meet next Wednesday night but plans meetings on February 4 and 11. On February 4 the constitution will be read and a general reorganization will occur with possible speaker on an international topic.

The Intercollegiate Prohibition Association in Washington DC launches a student campaign to discuss the Eighteenth Amendment. Prizes range from 5 to 20 dollars for well written papers exploring whether prohibition is emancipator or slave maker, inviting broad participation.

Reid Speaks on Structure in Chemical Compounds at Richmond

Johns Hopkins professor Enmet Reid addressed the University of Richmond science group in the Physics lecture room last Saturday, January 17. He discussed how properties relate to structure in chemical compounds, illustrated with 22 isomers of octyl alcohols and X-ray analyses, and noted future atom construction possibilities.

Richmond College Urges Prompt Second Semester Registration

The dean informs Richmond College students that registration for the second semester begins January 22. Class cards for next semester courses will be in the treasurer’s office for distribution upon payment of fees. The second semester starts February 2 with registered classes. freshmen with under nine hours must consult the faculty committee at a later announced time.

Poor Attendance at Weekly Student Meet

In the absence of the president Dick Payne presided over the Student Government meeting January 19 1931. Mike Kent moved to appoint a committee to coordinate all organization and class meetings and post updates on a central bulletin board. The motion passed unanimously with W C Winn named chair and EEPF Overton as member to oversee the matter. The Delta Kappa local chapter will handle vesper services next Sunday. No meeting next Monday due to exams. the following Monday will be dedicated to class meetings. Attendance was notably poor and improvement is sought.

University physician Dr Cullen Pitt reports to The Collegian that smallpox on the campus is clearing up rapidly and student vaccination response from Richmond and Westhampton Colleges is highly satisfactory. A mild case from Christmas vacation is convalescent and nearing discharge. Health officials urged gym vaccination inspections with most vaccines taking. remaining students will be revaccinated soon.

Freshman English and Math Examinations Scheduled at Richmond College

Richmond College announces first semester exams for freshmen. English sections start at 2:00 this afternoon in assigned classrooms. Mathematics exams for the first semester are set for next Monday from 2:00 to 3:00. The schedule lists courses by day and room numbers for the week beginning January 24 1900 with classes meeting Monday through Saturday and includes Bible Bus Adm Education English History Mathematics Philosophy Physics Sociology Spanish Zoology.

The University of Richimond Omicron Delta Kappa chapter will oversee Sunday evening Vesper Services January 25 in Cannon Memorial Chapel with Dr J J Scherer delivering the keynote address. Glee Club will perform. Members listed include Gerhard Henricksen and others.

University of Richmond to Attend World Educational Conference

The University of Richmond will participate in the Christian World Educational Conference organized by YMCA and YWCA state councils. Noted speakers include Jerome Davis of Yale and Charles D Hurvey on foreign student relations. The series runs Feb 9 at Bridgewater College through March 7 at William and Mary.
