Alumni Banquet Sparks Varsity Basketball Dance Event
Last Saturday alumni hosted a banquet in the college refectory for about fifty prep and high school athletes invited to join the varsity basketball team for a game. The event closed with a dance in Roger Milhiser Gymnasium and the University Band performed with two young local musicians assisting. Coach Dobson introduced each alumnus to the crowd, naming figures such as Dave Miller and Taylor Sanford as upcoming Freshman coaches at WoML.

Seniors Entertain Sophomore Class at Westhampton Party
Westhampton College seniors hosted a January 9 birthday party for sophomores at the Red Cross Building from 9 to 11 PM after a special dining hall dinner. Seniors wore pirate costumes and red and white colors. songs and banter followed a formal sponsor and dean at the president’s table.

Prize Essay Contest Sponsored by Schalkenback Foundation
The Schalkenback Foundation again sponsors a prize essay contest at the University of Richmond. The subject is The Taxation of Land Values. Last year the winner was Gerhard Henricksen. Prizes totaling $200 will be offered to Richmond College undergraduates as part of the foundation's single tax campaign.

Morissette speaks at student meeting about Messenger
Bruce Morrissette editor of The Messenger told Richmond College students at the City University meeting that only two prose pieces and four poems were submitted this session. He urged more material from Richmond College and noted limited undergraduate involvement. Dean Prince addressed the smallpox situation and urged vaccination. Building program announced at chapel service
Dr. F W Boatwright spoke at a joint chapel service for Richmond and Westhampton Colleges on Friday January 9 1931 urging stronger student activities and announcing a 1931 building program. The University of Richmond plans six new buildings in 1931 including Alumni Hall Biological Laboratory Maryland Hall Girls Dorm Library and Swimming Pool with Maryland Hall and the dormitory project expected to finish by September 1931.

Westhampton Joins National Student Federation
Westhampton College voted to join the National Student Federation after delegates Mary Hicks and Elizabeth Fugate observed the Atlanta congress during Christmas. The College Government Council endorsed the recommendation, and the student body approved it at last Tuesday’s meeting.
