Coach Dobson introduces a point system for Freshmen in compulsory athletics to spark interest and competition. Individuals earn up to 140 points across events, determining athletic efficiency. Prizes include a navy sweater, track shoes, a jersey, a class cap, and gun shoes for top finishers.
Students are urged to return uten sils bottles and hot water bags owned by the Medical Department immediately. Also anyone with heat bags belonging to the Athletic Association should turn them in promptly.
At a Richmond College meeting the Sigma Upsilon honorary literary fraternity elected five new members Chick Vans Judson Vans Win N Beebler Win Ellyson and R L Barrett. The local chapter now has fourteen members and plans definite literary work under Warren G Keith president. The chapter aims to collaborate with the Writer's Club.
O. D. K. Fraternity prepares its annual meeting at the University on February 17 1923. Professor H. B. Handy a vice president of the national fraternity leads planning. Visiting delegates may attend the varsity basketball game and a Richmond historical tour with potential social events such as a smoker or dance.
Plans by Dr. J. W. Boatwright president to return all cuts from the current issue of The Web to the university and file them. The university annual will be published in Milwaukee and copper cuts will be classified and stored for future use by college publications at no expense. The cuts are valued by organizations and publications and should be kept.
Preparations for the annual senior play proceed with a February performance planned at the Strand Theater. Israel Zangwill's four act comedy Merely Mary Ann has been chosen with a partial cast announced including Peter and the Rev Samuel Smedge played by W I Hatcher and W A Evans Jr. WN Beehler will essay the
Student body unity prompts a higher athletic fee to persuade Coach Frank M. Dobson to sign a five year contract with the University of Richmond. Despite richer offers elsewhere, he commits to a long tenure, reaching over fifteen years of service after the new deal. Under his leadership the university’s athletics rose from mediocre to among state leaders, with compulsory athletics and notable facility progress at Stadium Field.
Pi Alpha Society of Westhampton met January 11 to elect officers for the coming year. The results: President Virginia Epes, Vice-President Ellen Douglas Oliver, Secretary and Treasurer Hannah Coker.
Dr May L Keller Dean of Westhampton College discusses differences between country and city girls entering college. She notes country students rely more on faculty early on due to less high school preparation and maturity, while city students often show greater independence as they adjust to college work.
Dr Boatwright outlined a plan to divide the student body into groups assigned to each professor as counselors. Professors will submit preferred student lists to the Dean, who will remove overlaps and return them. Names will be announced only by the professors. The aim is to give faculty avenues to advise students.
The Tau Kappa Alpha fraternity plans its first Virginia state meeting at the University of Richmond campus on Saturday January 20 at 10 o clock. The Richmond chapter organized the event after consultation with Randolph-Macon College Ashland and other Virginia chapters.
By unanimous vote of the congregation Boyce M. Moody a junior class member was elected to take the Ridge Baptist Church pastorate. Moody will begin the second Sunday in February and conduct services twice weekly, with ordination plans in progress. He attends Pine Street Baptist Church and has been active there for years.
