Colleges Plan Dinners to Foster Student Exchange

Westhampton and Richmond Colleges will host an exchange dinner this evening to boost social relations. Westhampton juniors and freshmen will dine on Richmond College food, while Richmond seniors and sophomores visit Westhampton. Afterward, intercollegiate basketball games will be attended by campus meal participants. If successful, exchanges may occur monthly.

Board To Probe Point System At College Meeting

Regular Student Government Association session shows campus interest in abolishing SGA. Charles Stokes moves to appoint a committee to study a Westhampton style point based student office system. Mitchell to Open Feb lectures on Omitted Chapters in History

Dr. S. C. Mitchell opens a three night series February 3 in the T. C. Williams School of Law Building. University of Richmond Students Eligible for Essay Contest

Undergraduate students may enter the Prize Essay Contest on Taxation of Land Values sponsored by the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation New York City. Prizes total seven awards with $100 for first and $50 for second, plus five honorable mentions of $10. Based on Henry George writings and funded by Annie C. George Prize Fund.

Dr Boatwright Travels to Washington for College Meeting

Dr Boatwright left Tuesday morning for Washington D C to attend a meeting of the Association of American Colleges which met Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. He is now in New York on business and will speak at the Pastors Conference in Baltimore on Monday January 20. He plans to visit the Maryland Hall Committee and finalize plans for Maryland Hall a new dormitory for Westhampton.

Forensic Group Announces Southern Debate Tour Subject

The forensic council selects the topic Resolved That the Great Powers Should Renounce Their Extra Territorial Rights in China for the southern debating tour. Wake Forest Duke Davidson and Mercer face the University of Richmond with more schools possible. Tryouts arrive in the second week of February for all enrolled students in good standing.

Collegian Organizes Reportorial Club At Rich mond

The Richmond Collegian announces formation of a reportorial club for Westhampton and Richmond Colleges. All current reporters and prospective staff applicants are urged to attend the first meeting Monday at 3:00 PM in The Collegian office in the Y M C A building where officers will be elected.

Bynner Undergraduate Poetry Contest extends into 1930

Dr. Goode announces that Palms magazine will sponsor the Witter Bynner Undergraduate Poetry Contest for college students in 1930. Mr. Bynner serves as the sole judge, replacing previous years with multiple judges due to difficulty reaching agreement.

Student Government Motion Calls For Reform At Richmond

On November 25 1929 Ernest L Honts moved for action January 20 1930 urging that school spirit is low and faculty cooperation lacking and that rehabilitation of Student Government is needed to restore support for athletic teams forensics dramatic arts publication and other activities at the University of Richmond.

Dr Churchill Chamberlaine to speak at Vespers

Dr Churchill Chamberlaine of St Christopher's School will be the speaker at Vespers next Sunday evening in the Henry Mansfield Cannon Memorial Chapel from 7:00 to 7:50 PM. Dr R E Gaines of Richmond College chairs the Vesper Program Committee and Westhampton girls may be escorted to Vespers with ten minute engagements after the service.

Westhampton YWCA Secures Radio Installation

Westhampton residents spread word that a radio has been ordered for the YWCA. After years of urging the board the YWCA will set up a specially furnished room where girls can relax, sell items, and enjoy themselves. Edith Goode Memorial room furnishings will be reused with Student Government Council aiding in purchasing remaining furniture and selecting the space.

Inter-Frat Council Debates Rushing Amendments

At a recent Inter-fraternity Council meeting no decisions were reached on rushing. The body favored keeping the season timing but shortening its length. Bids to run from eight o clock Saturday to noon Monday were proposed with limits on rush duration. Pollard An Alum Governor Born August 4 1871

Dr John Garland Pollard, a University of Richmond alumnus, is celebrated for his long public service record as Virginian governor. Born at Bunker Hill in 1871, he later moved to Richmond where he began his education before entering Richmond College. Continued on Page 5.
