University Players Elect New Members In Recent Meeting

At a University Mayors meeting Rich mond and Westhampton College students Gladys Smith Mallory Freeman Harold Whippo Arthur Eliot and Chick Carbone were chosen for membership. The group noted these members have acted staged or financed multiple club productions. The March plan calls for a production of an Ibsen play.

Alumni Banquet and Varsity Victory at University of Richmond

The University of Richmond alumni banquet was held Saturday January 4 in the university refectory with about 110 attendees, the largest turnout in years. Dr Harlan and Couch Dobson spoke, then the Alumni-Varsity basketball game followed, the Varsity winning 43 to 37 after a disciplined opening by alumni players introduced with their college records.

New Manager of Web Appointed to Fill Vacancy

At the University of Richmond board meeting last Monday, Donald R. Mann resigned as Business Manager of The Web. Eugene Ritter was elected to fill the vacancy after Mann cited excessive workload and botany duties.

Emanuel Emroch Named Editor of Phi Alpha Quarterly

At the Phi Alpha fraternity's annual convention in Washington Emanuel Emroch a University of Richmond BA graduate 1928 was appointed editor in chief of the Phi Alpha Fraternity Quarterly He previously edited The Web at Richmond College during his studies Continued on Page 6.

Faculty Members Enjoy Pleasant Vacations and Conventions

Richman College faculty returned to campus after holidays with many attending professional conventions. Names include Drs Mitchell McDanel Corinthwaite Goode McCary and Messrs Bailey Smart and Professors Harlan Astrop among others. Several traveled to North Carolina New York Kentucky Washington Tennessee and Mississippi locations for meetings and family visits.

Dr Pitt announces new hours effective January 3 for himself and assistant Pastore at Millhiser Gym. Dr Pitt 5 30 to 6 00 P M weekdays and Pastore 5 30 to 6 00 P M weekdays and 6 30 to 8 00 P M Mon Tue Wed Thu 30 to 7 P M Fri Sat 6 00 to 6 30 P M Sun. Rules urge punctual conformity and note sick excuses lapse limits and reporting for confined patients.

February 3 Opening Date for University Lectures Series

Beginning February 3 the evening school of Business Administration will sponsor fifteen lectures by University of Richmond faculty. Lectures will be held each night in the T. C. Williams School of Law building as part of a public outreach effort to strengthen ties between Richmond citizens and the university.

Mu Sigma Rho Installs New Officers for 1930

Regulation on Web Representative Fees Due February First

Photographer Returns to Complete University Annual Portraits

The Web photographer is back on the University of Richmond campus to finish student portraits for the annual. He began Tuesday in the Chemistry building basement and will stay through next Tuesday, counting freshmen and upperclassmen alike. Harris Welsh, editor, urges no delays. The issue will feature new photography and improvements over last year.

Students prepare for examinations at university start

First semester examinations for 1929 1930 begin Thursday January 23 at 9 00 A M and run to February with noon end time Many freshmen face a new academic experience and English and Mathematics 1 are among the courses noted as upcoming exams.

Prize Essay Contest on Taxation of Land Values

The Robert Schalkenback Foundation of New York sponsors a prize essay contest at the University of Richmond open to all undergraduates. Essays on Taxation of Land Values, based on Henry George teachings, compete for $200 total with $100 first prize and $50 second prize from the Annie C. George Prize Fund.

University Players Praise Windemere Production Despite Flaws

Reviewer lauds University Players for a well developed Lady Windemere's Fan with strong cast balance led by Philip Newton and Gladys Smith. Notes fair direction and stage pictures but criticizes Miss Erlynne's tone and Lord Darlington's lack of vigor from Harold Whippo.
