Westhampton College posted the morning only exam timetable with physics and psychology late after lunch. The second semester class start is February 1 at 9 AM. Exams run January 21 to 25 with multiple subjects across days and rooms. continuous.
At Thursday night meeting of the Richmond College Y M C A cabinet student secretary Mr Robinson spoke on the Buffalo conference and the Bucknell model disarmament event. He urged the local Y to back world peace efforts and suggested staging Abraham's Bosom to improve racial relations, with Rufus Darden forming a production committee.
The Interfraternity Council at Richmond College approves measures to curb dancing crashes. Fraternity representatives sought council help after widespread practice was deemed objectionable. The council adopts resolutions guiding all dances hosted by Richmond College fraternities.
The Mu Sigma Rho Literary Society elected L. C. McKenney as president H. D. Reese as vice president Roger Grant as secretary Paul Nye as representative to Forensic Council Stewart Cook remains treasurer The new officers will be installed Monday night with the president appointing a chaplain critic hall debater and sergeant at arms until May meetings are held in Room 1 every Monday at 7 30 PM.
The Senior Class met to discuss the junior senior prom with a tentative date of January 29 or 30. Mike Kents Legg Legg Collegiana may perform. A committee led by Mike Kent Beefy Lord and Mekles Green will coordinate with the Junior Class and finalize arrangements. Russ Whalen chairs a twelve member committee proposing a life insurance resolution to endow a permanent scholarship fund as a Class of 1932 gift.
The Pi Delta Epsilon fraternity sponsors a petition for compulsory Budget Fees next year. Over 540 Richmond College students have signed in favor, with at most 50 undecided. President Boatwright will receive the petition early next week via the executive committee of the board of trustees.
Forensic Council held debate try-outs Tuesday with judges Professors Hackley and Russel. Five students were selected Roger Grant Clinton Clarke Stuart Cooke Edwin Cohen and L C McKenny with the last three as alternates. The new team joins last year’s returnees to form the 1932 Richmond College debate squad.
With three sophomores starting, the Spiders beat the Medical College of Virginia 40 to 23 at Millhiser Gym. Sollie Banks led scoring with 10 points as ten of the twelve players reached the scoring column. Captain Sherman and Allmond starred for the winners. Abby Banks and the Medicos were notable with strong plays.
Westhampton students approved two dances for the weekend after exams at a college government meeting. The annual mid winter prom will be held Friday February and is sponsored by the Junior Class. A second informal dance is planned for Saturday. Both dances will stay on campus per administration ruling.
The Varsity Club hosted a 10 to 12 dance in Roger Millhiser Gym last Saturday with Mike Kent and the Richmond Collegians providing music. Visitors from military prep schools wore colorful uniforms while alumni coached prep teams in daytime basketball games, including Richmond freshmen vs Glass High and the Varsity quint vs the Medical College of Virginia.
The Budget Fee Committee plans to mail letters to the homes of students who have not paid their budget fee. They aim to inform parents of the campus financial condition and seek support to raise funds for the year’s activities. The move follows poor student response and low school spirit at Richmond College.
On Friday night January 8 at the Red Cross Building the Latin department of Westhampton College staged the Cyclops by Euripides and a satire imagining Seneca’s approach. Dr. Gertrude H. Beggs introduced the junior students and noted the event was a study piece rather than a finished drama.
Alumni Prep Day at Richmond College featured multiple games headlined by Franklin High School versus Highland Springs and Benedictine versus Hargrave Military Academy. Evening events included a banquet with Dr. Mitchell, a win by the Richmond College quintet over Medicoes, and a dance with Mike Kent's Collegians.
