Biblical Emphasis Noted in 1956 Religious Week List

The Rev J Ralph Shotwell released the 1956 Religious Emphasis Week book list and songs for sermon in song by Hobart Mitchell. The theme That We Might Believe runs February 6 to 10 with a Monday convocation by Dr Wesley Schrader and daily Bible study activities.

Stone Announces Varied Fare for SAB

Stone presents SAB activities with a Friday film January 13 featuring Has Anybody Seen My Gal with Rock Hudson and Piper Laurie. Coffee hours January 20 and 22 offer drinks and refreshments. A new college calendar, donated by Mr Mayo, is being prepared for distribution next semester. Stone invites student suggestions.

German Club to View Color Film Along Germany's Romantic Road

The German Club will show the color film Along Germany's Romantic Road on Monday January 30 at 7 15 p m in the Margaret James Room Keller Hall. It is a release from the German Tourist Information Office and runs about 25 minutes. All German students at the University are invited to attend.

Five Westhampton seniors named as Web Beauty finalists

Richmond College students chose Gwen Haley Dottie Stiff Sue Hunter Phyllis Gee and Betty Lou Kendall as Web Beauty finalists for 1956. The selection expands to include Richmond College to represent the entire University. An impartial judge will pick the winner later this year with Norman Rockwell as last year's judge.

Registration Rules Listed

January 2026 dates require students to settle accounts with the Treasurer before matriculation on January 27 and class meetings January 30 and 31. Fees may be paid January 20 or 21, with staggered dates for initials A through Z. office hours vary, and late registration incurs a five dollar fee. New treasurer office in the Boatwright Memorial Library basement.

Sophomore County Fair At Keller Hall Gym

Westhampton sophomores host a roof rocking county fair at Keller Hall gym from 8:00 to 10:00 on February 3. The event features booths a fortune teller entertainment a dance band and dancing in sock feet or barefoot. It promises the best fair in twenty nine counties.

Temple Named Festival Princess for Apple Blossom

Carolyn Temple of Westhampton junior was chosen as festival princess to represent the school at the Apple Blossom Festival. Other nominees included Dottie Stiff Joyce Binner Nancy Day and Mary Jordan. The festival runs April 26-27 in Winchester Virginia.

May Day Head Chosen At Westhampton College Council

Martha Boatwright, Westhampton senior, will lead the 1956 May Day festivities with Anne Byrd and Ruth Tipton as junior coordinators and Jane Bowles and Edna Wag staff as secretary and treasurer. Nine chairmen were named including Brandon McDaniel and Nancy Day for festival and carnival.

Richmond Hosts Dr. Ralph E. Lapp For Talk On The Scientist

Dr. Ralph E. Lapp, veteran atomic scientist and author, speaks on The Scientist and Society at 8:00 p.m. in Keller Hall January 13 under the University of Richmond Thomas Lecture Foundation. Lapp, director of Nuclear Science Service, is known for civilian defense writings and popular works on atomic energy.

DTPHas Hopes For Scholarship Award

Jefferson Senate of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity submitted a scholarship report for 1954-55 hoping to win one of three national awards for top Senates. The Jefferson group posted an average 67.92 percent versus 65 percent for the law school, with key members Edmonds, Blue, and Daniel among top class performers.
