McNeill Named Finalist in Sigma Upsilon Story Contest

Richmond College English graduate student Warren McNeill earned high honors in a Sigma Upsilon short story contest for Nirvana appearing on the News Letter front page. Lucy Bourne shared honors. Lanier chapter invited her entry from the University of Tennessee.

Herman West Edwards to Make Northern Tour

Three University representatives Harry M. Herman of the T C Williams School of Law T Eugene West and Robert W Edwards were chosen for a northern debating trip. They will debate Gettysburg College the University of West Virginia and Carson Newman University with Gettysburg and West Virginia first in February and Carson Newman later in the month.

Web yearbook photo project advances at rapid pace

The project reports 655 pictures taken including individual photos and the Law School. Football and hockey group photos have been captured at Richmond and Westhampton. A photographer will return in February to shoot basketball teams. The opening, view, and football sections total thirty pages and are with printers. Class histories are printed soon. Final photos expected by January 15. This season’s annual bids are not among the best in college history.

Sixty-Seven Make College Honor Roll

Sixty seven students are listed on the fall term honor roll. Leading the group are Richmond boys C P Ely and C W Givens with five A grades each. The list, issued by the Dean, includes many names such as J F Batking, L N Bloomberg, D V Buchanan, and others, with entry requiring an 85 percent average.

University President Urges United Effort for 1927 Campaign

Dr Boatwright addresses The Collegian readers greeting students and faculty for the New Year. He emphasizes university tasks in 1927 and calls for full cooperation during the Richmond division campaign from March 21 to 28. He stresses united effort and promising outcomes for university life.

Omicron Delta Kappa to Hold Annual Conclave at UVa

Omicron Delta Kappa the national honorary fraternity will hold its annual conclave at the University of Virginia February 18. Delegates from chapters mostly east of the Appalachians will be hosted by the Charlottesville chapter. A meeting of Epsilon Circle will select a Richmond delegate and W L Prince of Richmond College and grand officer is expected to attend in person.

Inaugural Meeting of Philologians Held for Winter Spring Terms

Officers for the Philologian Literary Society have been announced for the Winter and Spring terms. The first meeting Monday at 7:00 PM will install new plans and officers including T Eugene West as Winter president and John Wendell Hash as Spring president, with several other roles listed.

Messenger Short Story Contest Open to University of Richmond Students

The Messenger announces a story contest for University of Richmond students excluding Writers' Club of Westhampton and Sigma Upsilon. Submissions must be under 3500 words and in nom de plume. Entries due by March 1 1927. winners to be published in April.

Debating preliminaries set for Rutgers and peers

Debates preliminaries for the college team will occur Wednesday afternoon January 12 at 3 00 in Ryland Hall Room 1. The team of three men will face a forensic trio from an old New York university before meeting Rutgers debaters in the Richmond College chapel.

Sutherland Wins True Story Prize at Richmond College

H M Sutherland a Richmond College graduate and former Richmond Collegian editor has won first prize of 5 000 in the True Story Prize Contest by Macfailden Publication Co from over 50 000 manuscripts. His life story and mining country background are cited as sources for his acclaimed first person tales.

Doctor Negus Addresses Richmond Boy Scouts Banquet

Dr Sidney S Negus associate professor of chemistry at the University of Richmond spoke to the Boy Scouts and officials at the annual Richmond scouts banquet. He presented an engaging talk and indoor stunts then gave each boy a question sheet with prizes offered for the best answers. He has long shown interest in boys and directs a small summer camp in Vermont.
