The Messenger features a holiday themed December issue with stories “Family Christmas” by Nelson Weber and “Letter to Santa” by Bobby Rodewald. Peggy Harris’ “Peace on Earth” offers a sober editorial, plus “Horse Racing in Soviet Russia” adds a humorous utopian view.
A spokesman for the University Players said the biggest project next year will be painting the Playhouse. The group will seek students not interested in acting but in other play production roles. Advertisers, stage hands, photographers, and business majors are needed. Student photographers will have access to a plate camera and a fully equipped dark room.
Westhampton Athletic Association hosts the Snow Ball at Keller Hall from 9 PM to 12 AM with The Windsors providing music under Newton Thomas. The semi formal event features a Night Before Christmas theme, 14 dance sets, a 9:30 intermission with punch and cookies, and a reception line. Tickets are $1.75 drag.
George Washington University's negative team defeated Richmond's Harvey and Roberts of the University of Richmond to win second place at the Old Dominion Invitational. Richmond won best affirmative, while GWU's H. G. Krebs earned best contestant honors.
One hundred thirty six Richmond College students accepted bids to 11 social fraternities as rushing shifted to December. Lambda Chi Alpha and Theta Chi led with 18 pledges each, followed by Sigma Alpha Epsilon with 16 and Phi Gamma Delta and Pi Kappa Alpha with 15 each.
The S. C. Mitchell Literary Society will hold its first meeting after the holidays on January 3 at 12 35 pm in the Biology Lecture Room. President Charles Harvey announced the semi annual officer election is important for a representative selection.
The Athletic Association of Westhampton College will sponsor a bingo night on January 5 in the Kellar Hall lounge from 7 30 to 10 30 p m Virginia Brinson chairs the committee. Proceeds fund a hockey camp for girls next summer. Cards cost 5 cents with prizes after each game. A grand prize will be awarded. Free games run 7 30 to 8 00 p.m.
Leonard Stuart Baird, a biology graduate student, was killed instantly last night when his car was forced off the road by a skidding truck 12 miles south of Fredericksburg. The Collegian reports the early morning details.
