Mrs Mildred Bellows Morrissett is named sponsor for the Richmond College Senior Prom set in Millhiser Gym tonight from 9 30 to 12 30. The cabaret style dance features the Windsors as musicians with indirect lighting and ceiling decorations planned by the committee.
The French Department of Westhampton presents a Christmas pageant at Keller Hall College Government Room at 7 PM. A nativity scene, angels, and shepherds perform with colorful costumes. Dick Mitchell of Richmond College sings and Pre Noel visits with refreshments.
The University of Richmond chapter of Beta Beta Beta initiated eight new members at Dr. Robert F. Smart's home on December 3. Active members Perry Holt Walter Pearsons and Eleanor Feldherr. provisional members Florence Crute Joyce Gustafson David White Wirt Wills and Byrd Smith.
Lambda Chi Alpha unveiled a giant octopus like Spider uniform at the University with a size 14 felt hat and a detailed mask. The project, begun after designer plans from Nelson Weber, faced logistics hurdles including oversized hat production and special machinery from New York.
Richmond and Weat hampton College students on campus read Tue Concratan dated December 3 with 89 percent responding. Lead story coverage of ODK TKA and PDE tappings noted by 88 percent. 69 percent knew the news before publication and 66 percent named two other page one stories. Editorials graded fair or better by 79 percent.
Westhampton's annual Christmas Party sponsored by the College Government Association is Sunday at 8 in Keller Hall Reception Room. Joseph E. Nettles publicity director will preside as Santa Claus. Mallory Freeman narrates the Christmas story and Bob Dalton leads ceremonies.
A proposed intramural insurance plan for Richmond College moves from Senate to student frats. Senator Lewis T. Booker reports the measure hinges on fraternity adoption, with a letter to presidents this week. If enacted, participation would require all fraternities to subscribe by January 1, and two catbird teams would be insured next year.
Claude Thomas editor of the 1948 Spider Handbook reports in a letter to the Richmond College Senate that the handbook has paid all outstanding bills and ends the year in the black. Stuart Massie, president of the Student Government, praises the staff for service to the student body, notes last year’s deficit was covered by the SGA, and says over 140 unsold rat caps will be sold during Orientation Week next September.
University of Richmond hosts nine college teams including Florida, George Washington, Navy, Wake Forest, Randolph Macon, Penn State, Georgetown, and UVA for twelve campus debates today and tomorrow. Sessions occur in Chemistry Building rooms 13 and 16 and Westhampton College rooms with matches across Navy Georgetown Florida and others.
The 1948-49 Richmond Westhampton College Student Directory goes on sale today for 20 cents. It lists students and faculty with home addresses, phone numbers, and office hours, features a white binding with blue lettering, and is printed by W. H. Brown and Son. About 1500 copies were ordered for distribution by the YMCA Cabinet at the Refectory and student shop this weekend.
