Education Week Program Planned for Feb 3 and 6

State Education Week will be the second annual event with Dr. S. C. Mitchell Dr. Lough and Paul Peterson on the committee Plans for the Virginia program are shaping up The State Committee met last Sunday and February will be given over to the program University of Richmond dates are set for February 5 and 6. Notable speakers from around the country will lecture at twenty colleges and universities, with last year’s speakers Sherwood Eddy and Predrick Libby recalled Students may have a convocation and classes suspended for speeches as in the previous year.

Delegate Report on Pi Delta Epsilon Meeting

G Wellford Taylor represented the University of Richmond Chapter of Pi Delta Epsilon at its Atlanta convention. Officers elected were J R Pettit as president H D Doyle as vice president and R Evans as treasurer. A new chapter was granted at Dennison University and charters pending from Maryland Centre College Middlebury and Dickinson were considered. The convention condemned tabloids in collegiate newspapers and praised the entertainment provided.

University of Richmond Glee Club to Broadcast on WRVA

The University of Richmond Men's Glee Club will broadcast tonight at 7:30 from WRVA in Richmond Virginia. The program includes four concert numbers two quartet numbers and a tenor solo by Joseph R Robinson. Quartet: Herman B Dixon Joseph R Robinson T C Yeaman and Lloyd H Caster. Yeaman serves as club president.

Richmond College to award athletic letters today

Coach Frank M. Dobson will award athletic monograms before the student body in Chapel. Following the distribution there will be a short talk by the coach, as the yearly ceremony honors the Red and Blue players Taylor, Nevitt Sanford, White, Anderson, Hart, Metcalf, and Beate for their college football careers.

Convocation at University of Richmond Chapel

University of Richmond held its second Fall convocation Monday December 10 at noon in the Chapel Building. Judge Daniel Grinnan, former Chancery Court judge and local bank trust official, spoke on The Old County Court System of Virginia Its Value as a Popular Institution.

Editorial Contest Extended to January 12

The Delta Epsilon Freshman Editorial Contest judged by Professors Goode Handy and Doering of the English Department will now close on Saturday January 12 1929. Richmond Collegian conducts the event under Delta Epsilon auspices hoping for many editorials from freshmen during the holidays.

Phi Alpha Frat Wins Inter-Fraternity Scholarship Cup

Richmond College awards the Inter-Fraternity Scholarship Cup for 1928-29 to Phi Alpha, repeating last year’s victory. Phi Alpha posts an 87.92 average, with Phi Delta Omega second at 84.76 and Sigma Phi Epsilon 83.89. The cup becomes permanent after two consecutive wins and will be presented at today’s Student Government meeting in the Chapel.

M L Combs Named President Of Fredericksburg State College

Dr M L Combs Ed D alumnus of the University of Richmond was appointed President of Fredericksburg State Teachers College by the Board of Virginia Teachers Colleges last Friday receiving nine of twelve votes. The other candidate was Miss Rachel Gregg director of extension work at the University of Virginia. Combs was educated in Buchanan County public schools and is a graduate of the University of Virginia.

Westhampton Debaters Lose to Randolph-Macon Women College

A large audience witnessed a 2-1 victory for Randolph-Macon Women’s College over Westhampton in a Saturday night debate at the drawing room. Misses Davis and Berlin argued for Randolph-Macon. Misses Gill and Little for Westhampton. judges included Miss Melet Ruffin, Miss Gallaher, and Dr. Franklin Johnson.

Fraternity Council Backs Postponed Rushing Season

At a regular Interfraternity Council meeting in the faculty room, members voted to postpone rushing until the third Thursday of the second semester. The rule, set to take effect next year, moves bidding from October to a later date, citing concerns over freshmen time to evaluate fraternities and reduce pre-rush intensity.

Richmond College Debating Teams Seek Northern Trips

The Richmond College debating teams plan intensive trips to northern colleges including Johns Hopkins Haverford Rutgers Lafayette Franklin Marshall and Gettysburg for late February or early March contests. The topic is free trade with reciprocity and the home spring schedule lists Hampden Sydney Mercer Duke and Davidson. Richmond’s negative team last Friday defeated Lynchburg’s affirmative team three to nothing.

College Men's Class at Richmond Grows to 34

Attendance of the Richmond College Class of the First Baptist Church reached thirty four last Sunday with the opening of the new building at Monument and Boulevard. Coach Pitt teaches the class and Harold Atkins serves as president. a goal of fifty members is set for next Sunday as better facilities are now available.
