Omicron Delta Kappa holds convocation at Richmond College to announce eleven new members seven students from the campus and four alumni. Dr William M Brown will deliver the charge, with R N Sanford presiding in the president’s absence and initiation to follow.
Pi Delta Epsilon, national journalism fraternity, hosts its 1928 convention in Atlanta with Limory University and Georgia Tech as hosts. G Wellford Taylor represents the University of Richmond at the meeting. Walter J. George, U S Senator from Georgia, will deliver tomorrow's address and is noted as a major Southern political figure.
At the State Teachers Convention a session featured Dr R E Gaines of the Mathematics Department discussing problems facing mathematics teachers from trade schools through high school to college. Other speakers represented elementary grades before him.
The Freshman Editorial Contest conducted by Pi Delta Epsilon and the Richmond Collegian will close tomorrow December 8 at noon. Manuscripts must be turned in to a P. D. E. member or the librarian before that time and include the contestant’s name in an accompanying envelope.
Alpha Psi Omega holds its first meeting of the year and outlines a program for a brilliant season in dramatics. The campus chapter aims to present a February short play written and cast entirely of members, likely in the Red Cross building with elaborate lighting. An installation of the local chapter occurred in May last year and new member elections will be announced soon.
The University of Richmond Varsity Club hosts a dance to honor the freshman football squad. The Theta Chi house will host the event with attendance limited to Theta Chi members Varsity Club members and the freshman team. Pinky Mann leads the planning with page 5 continuation noted.
Richmond College faces Lynchburg in a dual debate at 8 pm in the Chapel Building. The Richmond negative team of J. P. Withourt and J. L. Hart will argue against the motion that United States water power resources should be developed and controlled by government entities.
Dr RK C Astrop of the psychology department will discuss The Relations Between Men and Women from the Psychological Standpoint at 7 30 tonight. It is the second of three Y M C A talks on the topic with a large student attendance expected and plans for a reception for foreign students under consideration.
Senior classes of Westhampton and Richmond Colleges present The Rivals by Richard Brinsley Sheridan on Thursday evening December 13 at 8 15 in Roger Millhiser Gymnasium. The comedy features Lloyd Caster as Captain Jack Absolute and Albert Cosolaro as Sir Bob Acres with a full cast including Charles Stokes Martin Staples Shockley Jack Scherer Clarence Chewning and Ernest Hants among others. Lydia Languish will be played by a student actress unnamed in the fragment.
University of Richmond holds its second convocation of the session on Monday December 10 at noon Judge Daniel Grinnan will deliver the principal address titled The Old County Court System of Virginia Its Value as a Popular Institution Faculty and seniors from Westhampton and Richmond Colleges attend in caps and gowns A large turnout of students, friends and alumni is expected for the exercises
The Mu Sig Library Society outlines a varied program for next Monday December 10 with declamation by H B Dixon and a current events discussion by Fred Harcum. A debate on capital punishment features T B Kincheloe and Lee Morrison opposing H L Croom and D R Hepler. A voluntary discussion closes the event.
Temple University in Philadelphia challenges Westhampton College to a debate while on a southern tour. Temple recently defeated Oxford and may duel Swarthmore on the same trip. Misses Adams Colin Gill Little form affirmatives and negatives for a December 8 Randolph Macon clash on Federal water power control.
Dr S C Mitchell of the History Department is in Grace Hospital after an operation last Monday. His general health and vigor are good and he is expected to recover quickly. He promises to resume classes after the Christmas holidays.
