Richmond Debaters Seek Third Straight Tournament Victory

The University of Richmond debate team, still undefeated, heads to the Virginia Invitational at the University of Virginia aiming for a third consecutive tournament win. Coach Dr. Golden fields veterans Pat Minor Rex Adams Keith Millar and John Millar as they face top East Coast schools in an all audience three round contest.

Philologian Team Wins Debate Title in Inter-Society Meet

The Philologian Literary Society won first place after four debates on the abolish segregation in secondary schools. John Allred John Brooks Joe Harmon and Gardner Koch led the team with only one loss, while S G Mitchells one man team Fred Mallory took the affirmative side and earned two decisive wins.

Faculty Student Party Set Sunday

The University Christmas party for faculty and students, Sunday at 8:00 in Kelley Blait’s reception room, features Master of Ceremonies Walt Jackson, caroling tours led by West hampton song leaders and Richmond College glee members, readings by Hope Guaraldi, solos by Jane Lanier and Sonny Bond, and a Westhampton Quartet performance. Santa will arrive with gifts for students.

Richmond Senior Class Reads Special Meeting Time

Students lacking Accident Insurance Identification Cards can pick them up from the Treasurer’s Office. The Richmond Senior Class will hold a special meeting next Tuesday at 11 50 in the chemistry lecture room.

Loyal alumnus Tip Saunders former UR star dies

William Francis Saunders known as Tip Saunders class of 1933 died December 5 in a Richmond hospital. He supported University of Richmond athletics especially basketball and Lambda Chi Alpha, never declined requests, and earned praise for loyalty. He served in WWI, worked in various posts, and spent 11 years on the State Corporation Commission staff. Pallbearers were fellow basketball team members.

Religious Programs Highlight Christmas Week on Campus

A week of Christmas themed events unfolds at the university. The Vesper Service at 7 15 p m next Thursday features a carol filled worship with a devotional and a Christmas reception for students. Canterbury Club hosts a St Stephens Church party for Episcopalians from 6 to 745 p m Sunday with 550 p m pickup at Westhampton barrier. Student Forum meets at St Giles Presbyterian Church at 6 p m for two Union Theological Seminary students delivering Christmas messages then attends University Christmas Party with transport from Westhampton barrier at 545 p m. Wesley Foundation hosts a party for orphans at the Methodist Home Thursday at 8 pm in Keller Hall basement. A Christmas pageant is planned.

First Three on RE Team Named

Byron Vincent profiles the Religious Emphasis Week team with 12 speakers led by Robert Denny of the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville. Denny, Kentucky born and UK educated, serves as youth chair for the Baptist World Alliance and travels widely for youth work. Douglas Gow of Toronto and George Schweitzer of the University of Tennessee are also featured as key team members with extensive business and academic credentials.

Kappa Sigma Tops Rush At University Of Richmond

On pay off day for UR rushing season, 24 men pledged by Kappa Sigma led the fraternity results. Phi Gamma Delta followed with 15 pledges and Sigma Phi Epsilon Lambda Chi Alpha and Phi Delta Theta each pledged 14. The list names pledges by fraternity and home towns across Virginia Maryland North Carolina and New Jersey.
