Mr and Mrs E E Bleasdell of the Boyden Hardware celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary at the Warren Betten home on Friday September 19. Attending were Rev Louis Krebs pastor of St Pauls Lutheran Church and family.
After school Tuesday the Girl Scouts gathered in Boyden Hardware to count 13.51 from town boxes. The Holland family of nine children benefits from box donations with each Holland box costing 2.25 to ship. The Co op Oil Station box led with 2.94, Vanden Brink’s 3.90, and the drive receives further support from a $10 donation by the Women's Club.
The Hull First Reformed Church lists a full weekend schedule with morning and afternoon services on Friday. The Women’s Missionary Conference runs sessions at 9 30, 1 30 and 7 20. Catechism classes Saturday, Sabbath School at 10 00, worships at 11 00 and 7 30. Intervening events include Y P C A and mission society meetings. The note invites all to worship.
Streets scarified and oiling prep underway in Boyden. Sidewalks replaced, trees trimmed, curbing laid as residents note improved looks. Out of state readers Simon Schortinghuis announce new Redlands California address at 1221 Orange St.
Nase Janssen sells to Pete De Boer and Pete De Boer’s house sells to Jack Rensink. Mrs. Henry Broesder hosted a birthday gathering Tuesday night for Mr. Broesder. Attending were families from Ellsworth Minnesota Little Rock and Boyden including the Broesders Lenz Meester Eikenboer and Klassen families.
Hull High powered the game with Valentine going 3 for 3, a double and two home runs. Boyden’s Bernissie had the lone extra base hit, a first inning double. The rivals meet again Friday at 3 30 p m on the Boyden diamond. Mrs Corneliis Postman travels from Hudsonville after a 10 day visit.
The Good Will truck from Sioux City will call in Boyden on Friday Oct 8 to collect old but usable clothing furniture and related items. Residents are asked to bring materials to the depot. Mr John Brinks was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital Sheldon Thursday evening for a streptococcus poisoning and is improving. Elaine and Rickey Gaugert of Heron Lake Minnesota visit grandparents Mr and Mrs Henry Auberg this week while parents visit Richard Auberg in Chicago. Mr and Mrs Walter Dickevers and Mrs Ike Struyk were business callers in Sioux Falls Wednesday.
Leland Wang a noted Chinese Christian leader will address the Missionary Conference of the Christian and Missionary Alliance at Gospel Church Orange City. Wang, called The Moody of China, leads the Chinese Missionary Union and is a friend of Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek. The conference runs September 28 through October 5 with speakers including Rev C J Mason and Rev I R Stebbins.
Chilly spell dropped to about 30 degrees last Sunday and Monday making this the coldest September in four years. Frost caused no crop damage as corn remains dented but unaffected. Women's Citizenship Club meets October 3 at 2 pm at Mrs John Van der Haar home with hostesses Mrs Lena Bergman and Mrs Maryin Green. Club president Mrs N De Haas urges attendance to plan for the District Convention in Sheldon on October 9.
Boyden High School beat Western Christian of Hull 4 to 1 at the Boyden diamond. Roggen pitched a four hitter and went the distance for Boyden while Van t Hul and Jacobsma worked six hits for Hull. Roggen and Bomgaars had two hits for Boyden, Slykhuis added a double and handled catcher duties.
