State C E Convention to Meet in Orange City

The Iowa Christian Endeavor Union plans its state convention in Orange City from October 9 to 12. Hundreds of youths from across Iowa attend for sermons, educational conferences, Bible study, sacred music, a city park picnic, and a banquet. Over 200 northwest Iowa youths have registered. inquiries go to Rev. R. J. Ongna, Trinity Reformed Church. Miss Marcella Olson of Des Moines leads the state group.

Lieutenant Hamisch to wed Karin Gudowsky in Germany

Mr and Mrs Herman Ossenfort announce the marriage of their son Lt S R Hamisch to Miss Karin Gudowsky. The ceremony occurred on Sept 1 at Bensheim Germany with a wedding dinner at Mayor Sims home. Lt Hamisch sails from Europe to the United States at month end.

Sioux County Farm Bureau backs Blue Cross enrollment drive

The Sioux County Farm Bureau approved a two week county wide Blue Cross enrollment campaign starting October 1 led by Fred Vanderram of Ireton. A Health Improvement Association will form at a September 22 meeting in Orange City with township representatives to promote enrollment and establish county plans. Blue Cross is a nonprofit hospital care plan endorsed by major medical groups and offered through participating hospitals in Iowa and nationwide with over 26 million subscribers in the United States. Rev John F Schortinghuis told his Valley Springs congregation he declined his full allotment from the First Reformed church of Valley Springs South Dakota.

Iowa Public Service seeks Sioux County electric franchise

The Iowa Public Service Company filed with the Iowa State Commerce Commission for a franchise to erect operate and maintain electric transmission facilities across public lands highways streams and private lands starting at Granville northward to Section 1 94N 48W. Hearing set October 7 1947 in Des Moines Docket E-8196. Castana residents voted 52-6 September 11 renewing the 25 year franchise.

Lost Island leads 30 day fish catch survey with 64 000

The Conservation Commission Biology Section surveyed seven lakes from July 24 to Aug 24. Lost Island Lake near Ruthvan caught 64 000 fish besting Spirit Lake at 28 000. West Okoboji 12 000. Black Hawk 0.17 per hour. Center Lake 1.53. East Okoboji 1.19. Storm Lake 0.75. Most Lost Island fish were bullheads and possession limits were lifted to reduce surplus.
