The Spencer Fair caused many excused absences and drained wallets while new teachers join the staff. Kenneth Walinga returns boosting enrollment to 54 with 17 freshmen being mentored by sophomores. Baseball starts Friday at 3 30 against Hespers. students show strong home run hitting in recess games and 4th and 5th graders work on flowers spiders and toads for science.

Health dept water tests show shallow well bacterially safe while deep well unsafe. Meeting adjourned. Ladies missionary meeting announced for Friday at 2 PM with Dr Luman J Schafer as speaker.

Breaks Arm in Wringer Injury at Grandparents’ Home
Little Eddie Baartman broke his arm Monday when it was caught in a washing machine wringer at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Baartman, Sr. Mrs. Henry Kortekamp of Bemidji, Minn. arrived Tuesday to spend several days with relatives and friends in Boyden. Mrs. Mary Meester of George spent Wednesday in the home of her son, Herman Meester and family.

Boyden Pitchers End Season With Outstanding Records
Boyden Ball Club manager Jack Rensink released pitching records. Walt Tiedeman led with nine games won or tied and a near perfect tournament record, including a 9th win in Hull. Good year posted eight games with a 1 7 mark and close losses. Joe Kieinhesselink played eight games, winning the Sheldon tournament game 5-3. Surprise Meeting Brings Grant Sheridan 4-H to Boyden
The August 22 gathering at Boyden Public School welcomed Grant Sheridan Willing Workers and 4-H families for a yearly event. Girls performed songs, poems, and a piano piece while a skit Ten Little Indians was presented. adults viewed garments, enjoyed recreation, and shared a lunch. Attendees looked forward to the 1948 Surprise Meeting.
