Ben Rensink Fatally Injured In Tractor Accident Near Boyden

Ben Rensink son of Mr and Mrs John Rensink was found conscious in a field four miles east and one mile north of Boyden with his body badly mutilated after being dragged by a trailing plow from a tractor. He died at Cram hospital Sheldon at 1 30 AM Thursday. The accident occurred Wednesday about 2 PM and no witness is known. Also noted is a marriage on August 26 between Eleanor Marie Braun and Henry W Mary in Hull Iowa with reception at the Braun home. They plan to live in Sheldon after October 1.

Corn Survives Frost, Peters Reports Early Harvest Near Sheldon

Chas Peters of a northwest Sheldon farm shows two ears of corn as proof that frost has not damaged his crop. He farms 300 acres with about 60 bushels per acre expected. The unusual early arrival of frost-free corn surprises local observers.

Orange City Sees Boom in Buildings and Hotels

A thriving year brings a $50,000 hotel by W. W. Beach of Sioux City and a 40 room two story brick hotel. Cambier Bros plan a $35,000 motor mart clad in brick. J. A. Brink Jr to add an $8,000 plumbing shop. Sioux Furniture Co to replace Betten hotel with a modern store. 35 to 40 new residences join the growth along the paved main street.

B and T Club Hosts Picnic Dinner for Departing Guests

The B and T Club and husbands hosted a dinner at W R Smith home last Thursday honoring Mr. and Mrs. W R Smith bound for Mitchell South Dakota and Mr. and Mrs. O C Blessing and Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Steenbergen who moved to Sherden. Guests included many couples, gifts of silverware and cut glass were presented, and the evening featured visiting and Progressive Whist.

Red Cross Patrol to Issue Victory Buttons at Sioux County Fair

An Omaha Recruiting Staion officer will be at the Home Service Booth at Sioux County Fairgrounds on Sept 4 and 5 to issue Victory Buttons to honorably discharged U S Army personnel. Bring your original discharge certificate. Also notes attendance at the Iowa State Fair by Mr Dean and others.

Eight from Here to Attend Central College

Boyden will send eight students to Central College in Pella Iowa this season seven boys and one girl. Those planning to leave next Monday include Henry Kamminga Ben Scholten Ralph Vander Pol Joe Stientjes Reuben De Valois John DeVelder Leonard Rensink and Christina Scholten. The school opens September 10 Rev Jacob Heemstra and wife will also depart soon as he is a faculty member.

Daylight Law Repealed After Presidential Veto

The Senate and House enacted repeal of the daylight law over the president's veto after a two-thirds vote. The measure, twice vetoed, becomes effective when clocks are turned back at the end of October, giving farmers relief from the prior hindrance.

Supervisors Let Contract For Moving 165 000 Yards of Dirt

County supervisors awarded the grading contract for state road preparation to pave sections from Orange City to Hawarden and Maurice to Sioux Center. The Phelan Shirley Co of Omaha won at 48.9 cents per cubic yard, up 10 cents from last year, with work to begin April 1 1920.

Van Roekel’s 61st birthday celebrated with family last Friday.
