Fatal Crash Kills Woman and Injures Six Near Little Rock

A F W Cobble Willys Knight touring car collided with a Ford driven by a Klinkhammer at Chris Atting corner four miles east of Little Rock Sunday noon. Mrs Protextor died in the afternoon. Cobble was seriously hurt but improving by Wednesday. Cobble’s 3 month old babe had a broken leg. The Reporter prints 10,000 perforated cream checks for Farmers Co operative Creamery.

Reverend Iurd Sells Sows at Rock Rapids Fair

At the Lyon county fair grounds Rev H H Hurd of Rock Rapids sold the yearling sow Lady Imperator for 1000 dollars to John Wegter of Sheldon. He earlier raised and sold her, then repurchased for 175, turning a profit. Other pure breds include Rockside Jumbo to Meyer Bros for 150, Rockside Giant to Kosters and Van Engen for 125, and Rockside Orphan to G S Neuroth for 110.

Soy Bean Day at County Farm Demonstration

Next Friday afternoon September 12 a Soy Bean demonstration will be held at the County Farm under the Sioux County Farm Bureau. Twelve varieties were planted last spring in four row plots and part of each plot will be cut for hay while the rest ripens to show maturity dates. County Agent Dunlop arranged for J W Coverdale, secretary of the Iowa State Federation of Farm Bureaus, to speak on farmer interests and the veto of the Daylight Saving Law. Prof. F C Churchill of Ames will explain local soy bean work and take part in the program at 2 o'clock sharp Wilson's time.

McCabes Visit to Minnesota and Wisconsin

Mr and Mrs Matt McCabe of Sheldon took their son Matt Jr on a two week trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin returning Thursday. They toured near Lacrosse and Fountain City with relatives and friends while H R Healy joined them for a visit. The piece notes Minnesota lakes scenery crops and attractive young ladies and mentions Buick six cylinder. It compares Iowa farm life to Minnesota with rising land values and crops with Jane selling land at 150 to 200 per acre and land prices up from 50 to 75 per acre since last spring.

Auto Crash At Newkirk Injures Van Otterloo Family

An auto collision at the hotel corner in Newkirk Sunday involving Gerrit Van Otterloo and Ed Rensink left Mrs. Van Otterloo and her daughter badly bruised. Both cars suffered damage though no serious injuries are reported for the Rensink occupants.

New Deputy County Auditor Appointed in County

Herman E. Van Pelt called to deputy county auditor role, taking office August 21 to fill Gerrit Vis's vacancy. He studied at state university and state normal school, taught nine years, led Granville public school for three years, and will oversee duties at the auditor’s office after returning home to assist following his father’s death.

Orange City Hotel Contract Let to W W Beach

The building contract for the new Orange City Hotel budgeted at 50000 dollars has been awarded to W W Beach. The hotel will sit on corner lots next to Pure Food Grocery, opposite the old Betten Hotel.

Miss Hinton of Spencer Iowa was a guest of friends here last weekend. Taxes must be paid in the Treasurer's office on or before October 1 1919. Pay at the Farmers Savings Bank. Work on Mrs G J Scholten’s new home progresses rapidly east of the Heemstra house. Boyden adds new homes this year and the good work should continue. Town property values rise due to housing demand and high lumber costs.
