Lawrence Korthals was seriously injured in a collision with a train near George Monday night. The refrigerator car wheels were knocked from the track and overturned, leaving the railcar off the tracks a half mile from the crossing. railroad crews were called at 5 P.M. to repair damage and remove the car.
Lawrence Korthals, recently back from Korea, suffered a severe leg break head gash and broken collar bone in a Monday night accident. He underwent surgery Wednesday morning after shock and blood loss. His parents Mr and Mrs Leonard Korthals of Boyden are beside him as he remains in serious condition.
A reminder urges residents of Boyden to vote in the November 3 election selecting city officials. The notice emphasizes turnout and the importance of civic participation in local government.
Mr and Mrs Dwight Vander Haar of Howard Lake Minnesota became parents to an 8 pound 1 ounce son born October 23 at the Cokato hospital. He is named Jeffrey. The mother is the former Pie Horn. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Joe Horn and Mr and Mrs John Vander Haar of Boyden.
Miss Shirley Kuyper underwent an appendicitis operation Wednesday at Sheldon hospital. Joel Kuyper had an appendicitis operation Thursday at Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars and returned home Sunday morning. Miss Joan Van Velzen entered Methodist hospital in Sioux City this past week and is undergoing treatment. Bridge Club met Wednesday evening.
A dessert luncheon at the Mrs. Fred Starkweather residence featured a bridge game. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. K. N. Nelon, Airs. Mabel Jenisen, and Mrs. Jake Van Diepen.
Mr and Mrs Willis Vande Hoef visited the Marion Dykshoorn home in Sheldon on Sunday evening. Mr and Mrs L Meg Grooters and their teens were guests at Sidum Center. Andy Bruns dined with the Joel Schwartz family in Ashton on Sunday.
At the Wm. Vander Werff farm four miles west and two south of Boyden neighbors assisted with this year’s corn harvest. Vander Werff, burned in a machine shed explosion that also burned, could not help. Frank Vander Wilt and Amos Roetman appear in photos as the last ears are unloaded while six pickers move corn to three bins, demonstrating neighbors as best friends.
