Red Cross Meeting Held Monday Evening

The Boyden Branch of the American Red Cross Society met Monday evening at the hall with few members present. Chairman Karl Megdelsen opened, minutes approved, and elections held for board and officers. Incumbents Jos Horn W H Eddy Mrs Chas Bergman and Mrs H Jackson were reelected for three years. Rev Van Lummel named Chairman and Rev Karl Megdelsen Vice Chairman. Mrs Chas Bergman reelected Secretary and W H Eddy Treasurer.

A letter to the chairman of the Local Red Cross branch appeals for rapid shipment of knitted items. Bruce D. Smith of the Met Central Division requests sweaters and other completed or nearly finished knitting to be rushed to headquarters, which operates Monday and Friday afternoons.

Charles H. Tye of Fonda was elected superintendent of Sioux County schools succeeding F. E. Fuller. The convention, held in Orange City, named Tye after a four-man committee’s selection. Tye will likely assume office next spring. Miss Inez L. Fuller remains interim superintendent. Salary fixed at 2000 dollars yearly.

Boyden District Fails To Raise Quota

In Boyden district only 12000.50 of Liberty Bonds were sold toward a 3 billion dollar national goal. Automobiles were sent out Monday to sell the bonds but many men returned disappointed. Kortekamp Farm Sale Near Boyden Clears Over 1500

On Tuesday afternoon on his farm two miles west and half a mile south of Boyden Henry Kortekamp sold eight horses twenty five head of cattle and various articles. Auctioneer C Van Zyl Hospers and clerk Paul T McCrum oversaw the sale which brought in 1522.25. Kortekamp expressed satisfaction with the result.
