Will Get Power at Boyden Co Operative Transmission Co Inc Formed

Farmers north of Boyden organize to install an electric line about eleven miles long with eighteen members pledging around 5400 toward a project estimated at 5000 to 6000. The group names officers and directors and plans to complete the line before winter.

Obituary: Mrs. Jan Scholten of Hull Dies After Tumor Op

Mrs. Jan Scholten of Hull dies after Tuesday operation for stomach tumor performed by Dr. Maris. Born in Zutphen Netherlands in 1853, she lived in Boyden with her husband since 1878 and left nine children. Funeral held in Boyden with Rev. P. Jonker officiating and burial in Nassau township cemetery Alton.

W J Peters, agent for Western Electric, reports selling a complete Sunshine lighting plant to Lewis Eichmann, two miles east and two miles north of Boyden. Installation soon. Peters notes farmers will readily adopt modern electric plants as electricity becomes a necessity for progress in Northwest Iowa.

Local Liberty Loan Subscriptions Lag in 1917 Drive

At the close of the Second Liberty Loan of 1917 the Boyden vicinity subscribed 21,051 dollars, far below its district quota. Sioux County totals reached 922,350 dollars, also under the district goal. Nationally the Second Liberty Loan was oversubscribed by about 2 billion dollars, with over 5 billion in bonds sold and to be issued for delivery through banks.

Coffee Merchant Delays Train By Big Mail Order Biz

Joe Steven, a Boyden merchant, operates a large mail order coffee business. Saturday a westbound train on the I C was held up half an hour at Sheldon as parcels were transferred. Steven says he sells more coffee than any other merchant in the state and ships to southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa to beat the band.

Charles Webster federal fuel administrator for Iowa appointed P D Van Oosterhout of Orange City and N Balkema of Sioux Center with Walter W Smith of Hawarden to the Sioux county fuel commission The panel will investigate dealer overcharges report coal shortages and address fuel supply issues B T French of Hawarden was named advisor to several northwest Iowa counties A Hawarden dealer has already complained to the federal government about delays in coal shipments since April hoping the commission can secure results.
