Holstein Sale Brings $13 540 At Boyden Sheldon Sale

The second annual Holstein sale by the Holstein-Friesian Association of Boyden was held in Sheldon in a new pavilion. Sixty six head sold for 13 540 dollars, an average about 206 dollars per animal. Rensink Bros bought the top cow at 640 dollars, consigned by Corwin Farms of Rock Valley. Auctioneers were Col. Heager, Col. C. Van Zyl, and Col. Frank Myers.

Local leaders named for towns and farms in Iowa list

A. W. Davison Ashton is named head of Town 1 while Ben J. Rensink heads Boyden. John Tjalma of Sheldon is listed as DOA. Corwin Farms near Rock Valley is also noted with a Ley 210 designation.

Red Cross Society Meets Next Monday in Town Hall

The Boyden Branch of the American Red Cross postponed its annual meeting from Oct 15 due to low attendance. A new meeting is set for Monday Oct 22 at 8 pm in the town hall to elect directors and officers. Karl Megchelsen, Chm.

Crystal Wedding Anniversary Dinner for Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Sarsat

About thirteen friends attended a seven o'clock dinner Tuesday evening in honor of the fifteenth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. C F Sarsat. Guests were seated by length of marriage and admired a wedding cake with candles and yellow chrysanthemums. A two course dinner was served by Miss Hin ton and assistants. Gifts included crystal and a linen table cloth. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. W R Smith and others. Mrs. John Scholten was taken to Rochester Minnesota for health concerns possibly followed by surgery. A Red Cross Boyden Chapter meeting was adjourned for lack of quorum. a directors meeting was held with over half the board present.

Amendment carries by small majority in statewide vote

The constitutional liquor prohibition amendment passed by a narrow margin requiring an official count. In Sioux County the Dry side lost with 2393 No to 1797 Yes, while Sheridan showed 114 No and 89 Yes.

Postage Rates Fixed for November Post

Postmasters must charge 3 cents an ounce for letters and first class mail after November 2, with 2 cents for drop letters. Postal cards require 2 cents prepaid, and one cent postal cards must bear a one cent stamp. Private mailing cards with messages must have 2 cents prepaid. By order of the Postmaster General.

J Van Diepen Sale Draws Little Attendance

The J Van Diepen sale last Saturday afternoon drew a small crowd though some articles sold at fair prices. The small team of big mares brought 105 dollars while other horses sold below value. C Van Zin of Hospers was the auctioneer with Paul T McCrum as clerk. County Attorney Te Paske spoke at the Reformed Church urging voters to support prohibition to keep Iowa dry and hoped for a large amendment victory.
