Boyden Public School organizes weekly Defense Stamp purchases with money collected by teachers and recorded publicly. High and grade students will participate. a bulletin tracks sales. Plans include sending letters to servicemen and addressing a chicken pox outbreak in the fourth grade. Storm window checks and ad for Vogel Paint & Glass Co. included.
A local service station advertises oil changes at Boyden Service Station offering quick lube and vehicle maintenance.
Jacob De Boer aged 72 years 7 months 7 days died at Hull hospital after a lingering illness. Born February 11, 1870 in Friesland Netherlands he came to the United States in 1892. He married Gertrude De Valk in 1899 who preceded him in death. Survived by three children 13 eight grandchildren a sister and a brother. Funeral held October 12 1942 at Boyden First Reformed Church with Interment in Boyden Cemetery. Sioux Center Burial Assn had charge of arrangements.
Scrap drive days set for County Trucks and WPA trucks with local support. Boyden holds on Oct 15, Hospers on Oct 16, Alton and Ireton on Oct 14, Sioux Center and Orange City on Oct 15, Granville and Hawarden on Oct 16.
The Federated Women's Club and Boyden Library Board collect old keys for a salvage campaign. Deposits are urged at marked receiving points or in the Library. The effort supports the war effort.

Josef Henry Jansma, brother of Mrs. Reimers, paid an unannounced visit to Mr and Mrs Geo Reimers. Jansma has served in the U S Navy for 13 8 years and fought at Pearl Harbor and near the Solomon Islands. He will depart Friday to serve as Chief Machinists Mate on a new destroyer on the East Coast.
The U P Ladies Aid announces its annual Bazaar and Chicken Pie Dinner for Thursday noon October 29. Tickets cost 25 cents for children up to age ten, 50 cents for high children, and 50 cents for adults. Publicity and table supervision duties are assigned to listed members. A package drive supports all boys of the church in service.
