The Boyden high school will assemble in the gym Friday Oct 23 for a mixed program including the Pledge of Allegiance patriotic songs band and chorus selections. Future convocations will be held to entertain educate and involve students in planning and presenting the programs.
The home economics department reports a six week canning unit led by Miss Hardman. Freshmen and sophomores canned 208 pints and 284 quarts of produce, plus 52 glasses of jelly and 71 bottles of grape juice, mostly from local donations. They learned oven canning, cold pack, hot pack, and open kettle methods, preserving a wide list of items.
Tuesday sales across the school totaled 51.30 with 7th and 8th grades led by 10.40 in Miss Carter's room. High school juniors followed at 9.95. Defense Stamp day is every Tuesday for all grades.
On Monday a Josten Company representative showed samples of class rings to the juniors. The juniors have made a tentative choice and will make a final decision soon. Prices are higher than in the past and taxes add to the cost, but the juniors seem determined to have rings.
Word from George Van Diepen and Glenn Rhensink reports both soldiers have been advanced to Corporal and are now stationed with the 2711th Ordinance Company at Camp Breckenridge Kentucky.

Boyden raises community effort with 188 tons of scrap in two months. The Prairie Gold Area Council launches its annual Friends of Scouting financial canvass starting November 5 in Sioux District. District chairman Peter B. Mouw, vice chairman William Top, and District Commissioner George De Ruyter lead the 19 county council with headquarters at St. Dodge and field executive Elmer Doornink continuing in Orange City.
Hunters in Sioux County will receive up to ten signs per farm under a Sioux County Conservation League program. The signs read hunting permitted by permission of owner and park Carson Yard, shifting control of hunting numbers to farmers. League chapters will buy greeting cards from the county supply to give farmer members, aiming to reduce violations and improve hunter farmer relations. 5,000 signs printed.

Mr and Mrs Herman Vanden Bosch and their son of Gregory South Dakota were weekend guests in the Gerrit Vanden Bosch and Joe Kryske homes. They came to be near Fred Da Jong who was seriously ill. Stella Vanden Bosch of Rochester Minnesota is caring for him.
Leendert Burggraaf, 68, will have funeral services at his home near Boyden Friday at 1 30 PM. Rev. J W Brink will lead the rites. An obituary will follow in The Boyden Reporter next week.
Mrs. Tom Eich of Aull visited her sister Mrs. Robert Reimers for a few days this week while her husband Tom Eich serves in the Navy in New York. She plans to join him there in a couple weeks.
Funeral services were held for Arthur P. Lutyens age twenty eight at the Henry Tiedeman home and from St. Pauls church in Lull on Sunday.
