Red Cross drive under way in community this week

The annual Red Cross membership campaign runs this week with fifty new members reported on opening day in town. Farm Bureau volunteers canvass rural areas and the drive ends Saturday in Sioux County.

Bert Smit Sells 80 Acre Farm Near Boyden

The 80 acre farm two miles south of Boyden sold Monday to Herbert Huisman of Orange City for 225 dollars per acre. Huisman takes possession March 1. Smit plans a public auction October 27 and then moves to Boyden due to Mrs. Smit illness.

Will Organize Co-Operative Burial Association

A special meeting at Boyden Town Hall on Tuesday evening October 18 will begin a co operative Burial Association. A similar company operates successfully at Sioux Center and interested men will present the proposition here. Read the ad elsewhere in this issue.

Steven Store Reopens With Friday Auction in Boyden

The Steven Store will reopen to the public Friday afternoon with an auction sale. An auction is planned for Saturday afternoon and evening. Mr Steven confirms he will continue in business in Boyden and will restock the store.

Martha Circle Honors Its President

The Martha Circle held a surprise party for President Mrs J M Lumkes last week. Lumkes has led the organization for years and was recently reelected. Members presented her with an anniversary table cloth and napkins as a token of appreciation. Refreshments followed the social hour.

Poultry and Swine Clinic Slated for Wednesday

Dr. C. D. Williams of George H. Lee Company will host a Poultry and Pig Clinic at Farmers Lumber Yard on Wednesday Oct 19 at 8 PM. The session aims to cut farm losses from disease through diagnosis treatment and prevention. Farmers with fifty chickens or pigs may bring specimens for free post mortem and instruction. If contagious or infectious dog illnesses suspected avoid bringing such animals and notify Hilton Bros. Drug Co. The clinic has no admission charge and no sales.

Gerrit Willikes Relocated to Holland Home Sheldon

Mr. Gerrit Willikes aged 76 entered the Holland Home for the aged at Sheldon last Saturday after residing many years in Boyden. His household goods were sold following the Carl Hirt sale and he is supported by his First Reformed church congregation. The move aims to provide a comfortable home.

Carl Hirt Household Goods Sale Netted 495 Dollars

The auction of the Hirt household goods drew a large crowd and totaled 495 dollars. Auctioneer Ben J. Meylink and Farmers Savings Bank clerked the sale. The Hirts will move to California and are staying with the lady's mother in Sheldon.

Alton High School Wins Championship Game

Alton High School defeated Boyden 12 to 8 to win the championship in a Kitten Ball game played at Alton. The Boyden team played well but Alton prevailed. Mrs. Robert Moret hosted a Monday call in Sheldon. Potatoes for sale with delivery Monday by Gerrit Slothouber of Boyden. The Cottage Theatre in Orange City shows Wallace Beery and Ray Mond Hatton in Behind the Front and Fireman Save My Child for two nights October 19–20 with two shows at 7:30 and 9:00.
