The Boyden Public School reports on classroom activities across grades. Students celebrate birthdays and tests, with notes on eye exams, art projects, spelling and attendance honors, and six week assessments. News covers English social studies science and music with staff and student reporters.
Boyden High School lists its 1957 58 basketball dates. Games include Ireton Hospers Maurice Alton St Marys U C Academy Hull D C Academy Newkirk Sioux Center and more. County Tournament is January 13 17 with several home and away games through February 14.
The Sheridan Sunshiners report 4-H girls will hold a weiner roast at Jake Doorenbos farm on Tuesday evening at 5 30 p m. Each girl should bring her own food and dishes.
The United Presbyterian Church schedules 9:45 Sunday School 11:00 Morning Worship and 7:30 Evening Praise. Youth Fellowship led by Vera Mae Horn and Donna Doorenbos met the church parlor. Mr. and Mrs. Fellowship featured Adrian Dickev ers. Catechism classes set for Friday at 4:00. Rev. David McCalmond, Gibson Iowa candidate, will lead both morning and evening services next Sunday October 3.
First Reformed Church lists a busy calendar with an installation for Pastor Rev Paul Trempen in Doon on Oct 18, Mission Week events led by Kenneth Young on Oct 22, a Men's Brotherhood All Men's meeting Oct 22, Sunday School and youth classes starting Oct 16, and a Sioux County Sunday School Convention in Sioux Center from Oct 29 to 31.
The church outlines 8:00 German and 10:15 English services with 9:00 Sunday School and 9:15 Bible Study. Special offering next Sunday for Lutheran Welfare Society of Iowa and Lord's Supper on October 27 German and November 3 English. Ladies Aid marks 35th anniversary October 13 at 2:00 p.m. Officers elected for Mission Band. Juniors meet last Friday monthly. Rev Hinrichs attended the Western Pastoral Conference in Cushing.
First Reformed Church hosts Missionary Week from October 20 to 23 with guest speakers. Rev Walter De Velder from the Philippines speaks Sunday morning, Mrs Kenneth Young from Brewton Alabama speaks at Sunday School, Rev Edwin Luidens of Arabia at Sunday evening, and additional talks Monday through Wednesday by Ruth Brookema Formosa, Kenneth Young Brewton and Rev E Casslito Hebrew Mission.
Six stitches were needed after Jaéalyn Dunnick, age unclear, was bitten on the upper lip by her pet dog while startling it as she tried to pet it. The dog was asleep in a chair. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon.
The Bridge Club met at Mrs. Paul Zimmer's home Tuesday evening for a dessert luncheon followed by brid ge. Mrs. Norman Bell won the high prize with Mrs. Freda Roggen second. Mrs. Art Kreulen received the traveling prize. Guests included Mrs. Mitton Mackie Mrs. Don Phelps and Mrs. Jack Rensink.
Mrs. Harberts and Mr Ver Hoef wed Friday evening in Read jing Minnesota with attendees including Mr and Mrs Jack Rensink and Mr and Mrs Sam Ver Hoef and Miss Phyllis Siderius and Mrs Freda Roggen in attendance.
Postmaster Norman Bell announced the 19th annual National Letter Writing Week from October 6 to 12 expanding to an international observance. He urged residents of Boyden to join the celebration and write overdue letters to friends and relatives in America.
Den No 2 held a 4 PM meeting at Peter Vis home with 8 Cubs and 1 den chief. They planned Halloween costumes and masks. Anthony Vis was named den leader for October. Den No 3 met at Logan Vanden Brink home with 5 Cubs and 1 den chief. Paul Vanden Brink named denner. they made paper Halloween masks and played kickball. Den No 1 met at Paul Zimmer home with 6 Cubs and 1 den chief. they made Halloween flash light masks and will visit Arlo Zimmerman home next week with Columbus facts for roll call.
The county ASC chairman, John B. Draager, reports 1957 compliance corn in Sioux County will fetch a $1.32 per bushel loan rate, four cents above prior, with non compliance at $1.02. Barley, oats, and grain sorghum rates also rise, reflecting parity changes and new non compliance eligibility.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Korthals and Lawrence spent Sunday afternoon in the Gerrit L Korthals residence.
The Junior class of Boyden High School reports 18 new subscriptions and 36 renewals for The Boyden Reporter. With 21 members, Fred Riemers topped this week’s sales. October totals credit the class for new subscriptions at $1 each and renewals at 50 cents. The prize offers a fountain pen for the top seller of new subscriptions in October.
Mayor proclamation to voters of Boyden Iowa announces a regular municipal election on November 5 1937 at Legion Building 8 am to 8 pm with a public measure to annex adjacent territory described by bound lines and starting point in Sioux County Iowa to be approved or rejected by voters.
