County receives tax payment from Iowa Public Service Company

Iowa Public Service Company paid 1 443 948.60 in property taxes for the second half of 1956 to 33 Iowa county treasurers. Sioux County received 23 922 43 for the half year, with the company described as the county’s largest taxpayer. Taxes fund schools, highways, police, fire protection and other functions. Public Service supplies gas to Rock Valley and surrounding towns and electricity to many communities in Sioux County.

Sale of Kooiker Mfg Co at Hull to Sioux Steel finalized

After years of negotiations, the Kooiker Manufacturing Co was sold to Sioux Steel Co of Sioux Falls on Tuesday October 1st. The deal includes all real estate four downtown Hull buildings and will keep the Kooiker Mfg Co operating under the same name and staff. Sioux Steel aims to add Hull elevators to its line calling the product the Cadillac of metal cribs and best grain bins. Ralph Kooiker will assist in closing the sale and developing a new elevator model.

Ninth District to Meet in Mapleton for Fall Conference

Boyden Seizes Conference Title In Convincing Win

Boyden defeats Ireton 9 to 1 to clinch the conference crown. L Moret earned the win with Heitritter backing him. Zuiderhof and Heitritter hit triples for Boyden. Boyden finishes 4-0 in conference with 6 hits and 9 runs, while Ireton musters 2 hits and 1 run.

Farmhand Loses Hand in Corn Picker Accident

Orange City area farmer Orange City resident Harvey Oolman, three miles west of town, lost his right hand in a corn picker mishap Tuesday morning on the Willard Van Peursem farm. He was rushed to Grossmann Hospital and later transferred to a Sioux City hospital.

Local mishaps and dog attack in Boyden area

Henry Schloetje fell from a ladder while picking apples injuring his leg and was hospitalized in Sheldon with a leg cast. Judy Boelsma, 11, was bitten by a police dog at the Andrew Vander Wal farm north of Boyden and required stitches and rabies shots. David Doorenbos was bitten by a dog on the Gerrit Scholten farm two miles south of Boyden, with the dog confined for rabies observation.
