A Friday evening storm in Boyden damaged the south area telephone cable cutting 12 residence lines 2 business lines and trunk lines to Hull and Sheldon. Lightning burned insulation welded wires and caused outages. R F Macheak Sheldon manager apologized and repair crews worked overnight to restore service.
Mrs Tony Moerman nee Rika Van Mill died Thursday after a five day illness. Born June 5, 1866 in the Netherlands she was 82 years 4 months 23 days old. She arrived in 1887 and married June 4 1891 at Hudson S C. Survived by husband three daughters two sons three sisters three brothers 14 grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at First Reformed Church with interment in Boyden Cemetery. Special music by Mrs Ray Smit and Mrs Larry Salmon. Pallbearers listed.
R F Macheak of Northwestern Bell in Sheldon reports a 1250 expansion at the Boyden local dial office adding twenty subscriber circuits. The upgrade supports growing local calls and automatic switching, with 145 phones in Boyden now and 151 rural lines served from the local office.

A message from John Hymans, County Chairman in Hull Iowa, asks churches to collect offerings before Thanksgiving to aid Europe and Asia. The plan includes deposits at local banks and town organization this week to support hungry and homeless populations with food and clothing.

The Farmers Savings Bank in Boyden Iowa will adjust banking hours starting November 15 1948 to 9 00 to 12 00 in the morning and 1 00 to 3 00 in the afternoon to improve efficiency.
Mr and Mrs Gerrit Alons welcome a daughter born Monday November 1 at Hull Hospital. The infant weighs 8 pounds 1 ounce and has one older brother.
Mr and Mrs Case Houtsma of Hospers and others spent Friday in the Cyril Houtsma home at Flandreau South Dakota. The Burgraff home was moved from SW of Boyden to a lot by the Joe Van Velzen residence. Jack Rensink hosted guests honoring Art Van den Brink as they prepare to move to Sheldon. Additional guests included Ver Hoef Meester Starkweather Dickevers Rensink and Vanden Brink. Sunday supper at Ike Struyk home included Hilda Long and son plus Dickevers family. Evening guests Bertha Schwartz John Moret and others visited Mrs L Burgraff.
