Grandmother Marie Ossenfort died Tuesday noon at the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Ossenfort north of Boyden. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the house and 2:30 at St Johns Lutheran church with Rev Baetke officiating. Interment in Lutheran cemetery. The singing school at the Reformed church will present a cantata Sunday June 1 at 8:00 p m directed by Prof S H Buntley of Sheldon. The Sioux County Red Cross met at the Jackson Hotel Boyden with wide attendance and plans for Des Moines convention June 5. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs John Moon. We now sell Firestone Oldsfield Miller Goodrich Century Tires and Tubes.
Contestants in the Reporter Merchants Contest target many new subscribers from May 24 to June 3. An extra incentive offers $10 to the entrant bringing the most new subscribers plus 2000 votes per entry.
The Boyden Reporter runs a ten day contest from May 24 to June 3 offering $10 in silver plus 2000 votes for each new subscriber. Top six contestants win prizes as standings update weekly and entries must reach the office by 4:00 p.m. June 3. Names and totals of participants are listed.
The De Valois Mission Syndicate met at the town hall on Tuesday afternoon May 27. They fundraised with Mount Clair church New York to buy a Ford for use by Mr. and Mrs. John De Valois in India. Rev H M Weemschoten spoke on China mission work. Supper followed hosted by Mrs. Johanna Veenschoten. Attendance included numerous Van Wyk, De Valois, Veenschoten, Te Paske, Scholten, Vande Garde, Stientjes and related families from Hull Orange City Boyden Inwood Three Oaks Perkins and other towns.
Mrs J A Stutzman will entertain B and T club members at her home on Tuesday June 3 instead of Wednesday. Leave orders for Near Beer Pop and Ginger Ale at Home Bakery and Grocery. Rex Rex Toilet Paper four rolls for 25 cents at Reporter office.
Members of Section No 7 Buttermakers Association held a meeting at George on Thursday at 2 PM. Butter and starters were scored from creameries by the buttermaker, with a general discussion scheduled. Monthly meetings rotate among creameries. attendees include Jens Jensen Jawood Paul Mormon Rock Valley A Scholten Orange City A Yonker Sioux Center P Yonker Hospers L Woodiwiss Sheldon Christ Jensen Hartley A H Hein Sibley E Albright Hull Wils and H J Wargowsky Boyden D J Moran and J J Marx George.
Hull Boys' Base Ball Club defeated Boyden Loys 16 to 5 at Boyden on Wednesday May 14. Kooiker pitched poorly in the seventh inning allowing five runs as Hull built a 16 to 0 lead before Boyden rallied. Hull battery was Kooiker and Beach. Boyden battery included Stevens and Dean. A return game is planned soon.
Ike Dethmers and his wife called at the bedside of Mrs Dethmers father Mr Verrips several times this past week as he has been very sick at times Hull Index notes.
