Lutjens Estate Land Sale Nets High Prices

The Lutjens estate sale drew strong bidding. Capel Township's 40 acres sold to the Braun brothers of Hull for 802 dollars per acre. Lutjens home in Boyden sold to Herman Schoeneman for 8600 dollars. A 160 acre tract north of Bay went for 278 dollars per acre to John D. and Henry O. Stegeman. The Lutjens quarter section near Hull changed hands to Wm. Vander Zwaag and J. M. Hilbrands for 340 dollars per acre.

Town approves bond for superintendent residence

Ninety voters turned out on Wednesday to back the proposed home for the next Superintendent of Schools for Boyden. Seven voted against the bond. seventy three supported it, allowing the school board to seek a house and prepare for the next school year.

The town of Boyden reports major sidewalk improvements on Main Street with most businesses already updated and remaining sections to be finished soon. Publicity for Spencer High Pianist Wayne Zahrt

Wayne Zahrt, a Spencer high school pianist, gained nationwide publicity not for piano fame but for an accident at the Emmetsburg music contest. His hand was trapped by a wine glass holder backstage and had to be freed before he could perform, drawing attention after reports in major papers.

Lightning Strikes George Farm Barn and Buildings

A lightning bolt at 3 00 a m ignited the Eilert Nagel farm barn two miles south and eight miles west of George destroying the barn corn crib granary and two other structures. Only the house hog house and one small outbuilding survived. Damage totals about 10000 to 12000 with farmer loss of 2500. George firemen fought the blaze for hours.

In the coming weeks Sioux County farmers will receive letters urging investment of surplus funds in United States Savings Bonds. The notice promotes security and independence by buying bonds and keeping excess dollars out of circulation to stabilize commodity prices.

Boyden Junior Legion Suffers First Loss On Home Field

Boyden Junior Legion opened their season with a 6-1 defeat to Aston on Monday night. Scholten pitched well but issued 11 walks as the visitors pulled away in the later innings. Rosenboom plated Boyden’s lone run with a fourth-inning sacrifice, while Steve Den Herder stepped in at catcher for the first time. Boyden’s next game is Thursday May 27 at 6:30 against Hull on the local diamond.

Matlock hosts 80th birthday at Mary Meester home

Mr and Mrs Herman Meester and daughter attended Sunday dinner at Floyd Getting home in Matlock for the 80th birthday of Mrs Mary Meester of George. Spirit Lake visitors including Leon Sharp Maggie Sharp Nora Finch and Otto Walbrack called at Late Horns Friday afternoon.
