The Tuesday night performance of Cappy Ricks at the high school grossed 136.75 for the school. Seniors delivered a standout show, praised as the largest production yet, with funds earmarked for stage lights and other improvements.
The engagement was announced at the Junior Senior banquet. Miss Griffeth teaches at Boyden High School and Mr Dethmers is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Albert Dethmers. Albert Schaffer and his Carmel-born daughter visited the Leonard Landhuis home on Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Albert Grooters hosted fifteen friends and relatives at their home last Thursday May 15 to honor Mrs Grooters birthday A two course luncheon was served and guests enjoyed the evening.
Betty Louise Van Houte marked her seventh birthday on May 15 with a party for thirty three friends. Activities included games and refreshments under a Maypole canopy with green and pink decorations, an enjoyable time reported by attendees.
The Sioux County Cow Testing Association will hold its annual field day and picnic on June 5 at Albert Dethmers home near Boyden with judging contests games and talks by Earl N. Schultz and Jack Frisbie. The Interstate Conference of Farm Women meets June 17 18 in Sioux City with Wm. F Schilling addressing the open meeting on The Necessary Support.
Mr Henry Van Houte celebrated his birthday with a two course luncheon on May 15. Guests included Mr and Mrs Henry Rensink and family, Mrs Gerrit Van Houte of Seattle, Mrs J Van Houte and Mynna Van Houte, Mr and Mrs John Lensink and family from Matlock, and other visitors in the W. Van De Hoef home. Local notices urge early orders for buns and bakery goods for Decoration Day. Lime sulfur and arsenate of lead sprays are recommended for apple trees. Hil ton Bros. Drug Co. and neighbors frequent the area. Henrietta and Henry Van Nyhuis from Sheldon spent days with R. Kamminga. Cornie Rens and family from Sioux Center visited Boyden relatives last Thursday.
A corrected figure revises the Grocers Wholesale Company membership from 200 to 700 at Des Moines. A full report next week will cover the $325,000 building planned by the company.
Memorial Day services will be observed in Boyden at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the high school auditorium. After the program, graves at the cemetery will be decorated by the American Legion and Auxiliary. The program includes community singing, Rev J W Brink reading Thelma Dickevers vocal solo Miss Bertha Bosman address Rev T J Beving singing The Star Spangled Banner and benediction by Rev W R Clyde. Everyone is invited to attend.
Sioux Center candidate Gasser opposes County Attorney Hoeven in a contested race. Hoeven, president of the Iowa State County Attorney's Association, praised for swift law enforcement actions and injunctions against violators. Also notes honors from Sioux County Bankers Association. The piece also mentions the Stutzmans and Engelharts visiting Mrs Emma Stutzman en route from California.
