Commercial Club Preparing For Big Banquet

The Boyden Commercial Club plans a big surprise and special dinners at the Jackson Hotel Friday at 6 30 p m to celebrate a successful membership drive. A business meeting follows at the Library rooms to discuss a summer band and renewal of the weekly drawing.

Burial Association Holds Annual Meeting at Sioux Center

The Sioux Center Co operative burial association held its annual meeting last Tuesday. Re-elected director Henry Bosman of Boyden, with Andrew DeGraaf Martin Moeller and John H Dirks also chosen. DeGraaf to serve in an uncovered territory. Bosman reports strong finances and low cost high grade merchandise for members. William DeBruin of Sioux Center attended, as the area funeral director who handles most member services. Other attendees included Dick DeGroot Gerrit Bosman John Dykstra and Case Veen of Boyden.

Entertain Many Young Folks at Uitenbogaard Home

Mr and Mrs Uitenbogaard and family hosted a Wednesday evening gathering for numerous young people. A tasty lunch followed provided by Mrs Uitenbogaard and daughter. County Legion Convention Holds Sessions With Music and Speech

The County Convention of the American Legion and Auxiliary met at the High School with delegates from Orange City Alton Hull Hawarden Rock Valley Boyden Hospers Ireton. Henry Van Houte led a program of readings solos and a member choir followed by Senator Charles Hoeven’s address Preparedness urging strong naval air forces and Monroe Doctrine defense. A Universal Service bill note and a lunch concluded the event with Mrs George Reimers and fourteen members assisting and Younie presiding.

Doorenbos Bulk Gasoline Plant Bought by Co op

The Boyden Farmers Co-Operative Association purchased the Doorenbos bulk gasoline plant at Rock Rapids. The two tanks hold about 14,000 gallons each, raising the cooperative’s capacity to 95,000 gallons with space for Competition gasoline and distillite in the new addition.

Two New Nominees On Municipal Ballot

H Van Houte and A Dethmers sought re election to the Independent School District board with no opposition. Over 100 ballots were cast with Van Houte at 105 votes and Dethmers at 103. S G Vanden Brink won 102 votes for treasurer while three ballots were spoiled and only single votes went to Sid Diekevers Gerrit Slothouber and Leonard Landhuis.

Spelling Contest At Orange City Draws Big Crowd

Sioux County School Notes report eighty one contestants and 200 visitors attending a notable spelling contest. In the Town school group first went to Phyllis Van De Brake of Sioux Center, second to Harriet Langstraat from Newkirk Consolidated. In the church school group first was Bertha Zwager man of Hospers, second Irma Jantzen of St. John's Parochial School in Boyden.

Ex-Boyden Businessman Ed Kuyper Dies in Saint James

Ed Kuyper of Saint James Minnesota died Friday morning at a local hospital after a heart attack. He was known for thirty years ago running the implement business in Boyden. Surviving relatives include his wife, Joe Kuyper, and children Robert and Shirley. Funeral services were held in Saint James Tuesday with the Kuyper family present.
