The Boyden Commercial Club plans a big surprise and special dinners at the Jackson Hotel Friday at 6 30 p m to celebrate a successful membership drive. A business meeting follows at the Library rooms to discuss a summer band and renewal of the weekly drawing.
The Sioux Center Co operative burial association held its annual meeting last Tuesday. Re-elected director Henry Bosman of Boyden, with Andrew DeGraaf Martin Moeller and John H Dirks also chosen. DeGraaf to serve in an uncovered territory. Bosman reports strong finances and low cost high grade merchandise for members. William DeBruin of Sioux Center attended, as the area funeral director who handles most member services. Other attendees included Dick DeGroot Gerrit Bosman John Dykstra and Case Veen of Boyden.
Mr and Mrs Uitenbogaard and family hosted a Wednesday evening gathering for numerous young people. A tasty lunch followed provided by Mrs Uitenbogaard and daughter. Attendees included Lawrence, Geneva, Margaret, Nelvina, Andrew, Cora, Eleanor Moret, Henry, Edward Boerhave, Bill, Louie, Mina Rons, Kathryn, Paul DeZeeuw, Anna Mae, Jeannetta, Willard Van De Heef, Margaret, Esther, Wilmina, Betty Kleyne, Sarah Van Aalsburg, Cornelia Veen, Hermina Kraai, Thomas DeGroot, Ernie Olson, Maurice Kooistra, Irene, Gerrit Van Engen, Vernon Reimers, Cornie Haspels, John Sarloos, Marjorie Belling, Zadha Krahling, Matilda Kreykes, Ed Arthur, and Margaret Uitenboogaard.
A chess association was organized at Sanborn last Thursday evening under the Northwestern Iowa Chess Association name. Officers include W. H. Barker as president and J. Mueller A. Scholl Rev. Meyers and W. G. Vanderburg as members.

The County Convention of the American Legion and Auxiliary met at the High School with delegates from Orange City Alton Hull Hawarden Rock Valley Boyden Hospers Ireton. Henry Van Houte led a program of readings solos and a member choir followed by Senator Charles Hoeven’s address Preparedness urging strong naval air forces and Monroe Doctrine defense. A Universal Service bill note and a lunch concluded the event with Mrs George Reimers and fourteen members assisting and Younie presiding.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Rehberg visited relatives in the Den Hartog home at Rock Valley and the John Rehberg home at Canton South Dakota on Sunday.
Mr and Mrs John W Horn and family from Slayton Minnesota and Mr and Mrs Howard Harmon and Mr and Mrs Albert Van Roekel from Alton were Sunday dinner guests in the Van Roekel parental home.
The Boyden Farmers Co-Operative Association purchased the Doorenbos bulk gasoline plant at Rock Rapids. The two tanks hold about 14,000 gallons each, raising the cooperative’s capacity to 95,000 gallons with space for Competition gasoline and distillite in the new addition.
H Van Houte and A Dethmers sought re election to the Independent School District board with no opposition. Over 100 ballots were cast with Van Houte at 105 votes and Dethmers at 103. S G Vanden Brink won 102 votes for treasurer while three ballots were spoiled and only single votes went to Sid Diekevers Gerrit Slothouber and Leonard Landhuis.
Sioux County School Notes report eighty one contestants and 200 visitors attending a notable spelling contest. In the Town school group first went to Phyllis Van De Brake of Sioux Center, second to Harriet Langstraat from Newkirk Consolidated. In the church school group first was Bertha Zwager man of Hospers, second Irma Jantzen of St. John's Parochial School in Boyden.
Mr and Mrs B Schneider and daughter Mary Jean of Sioux Center visit Wednesday in the John Schneider home.
Ruthye Jackson assisted with the butchering at the Bill Meyn home on Wednesday.
Mrs. Raymond P. Connor, who recently announced her condidacy for Secretary of State on the Republican ticket at the Junior Primaries, was a visitor in Boyden recently.
William Doorenbos purchased a junior size Allis Chalmers tractor from Albert Dethmers and Son implement firm in Boyden.
Only one ticket entered for the Town Hall election on Monday March 28. Incumbents seeking re election are John Dykstra Hubert Maris John Vander Haar Paul T Mc Crum and G Vanden Brink. New entries include H F Bergman appointed to fill a vacancy and Ring Smit replacing Paul Schreuder who did not run. Schreuder ends 17 years on the council.
Ed Kuyper of Saint James Minnesota died Friday morning at a local hospital after a heart attack. He was known for thirty years ago running the implement business in Boyden. Surviving relatives include his wife, Joe Kuyper, and children Robert and Shirley. Funeral services were held in Saint James Tuesday with the Kuyper family present.
Mrs Lillian Van Zyl and her son Bert Lee of Hospers spent several days last week at the V. E. Smith home.
Hubert Maris announces bid for Sioux County supervisor as candidates circle the Boyden mayoral race. John Dykstra seeks Republican nomination while incumbent K Kamminga may run again. Other local farmers Herman Van der Maaten and Ben Vaas consider runs. Polls open 8 am to 8 pm in Town Hall.
Mr and Mrs John Landhuis and daughter Eleanor visited Sunday in the Lubbers home at Orange City.
The Junior Missionary Society of the United Presbyterian Church will meet at Lucille Kwikkel's home Tuesday evening. Election of officers will be the order of business.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rensink hosted visitors John Rensink Sr and Mrs Gr Teeselink in Sioux City and Cherokee on Thursday as callers.
The Girls League for Service met Monday evening in the church with Stella and Winnifred Vanden Bosch as hostesses.
Mrs Mary Gardner of Clear Lake is spending the week in the home of her daughter Mrs Wargowsky.
Mrs. Ed Griffith of Rockwell City visits at her daughter Mrs John Dethmers home and returns to her own residence Wednesday.
Harriet Miller a University of South Dakota senior from Vermillion spent the weekend at home. She accompanied Rufus Ralston home Friday after he attended the Military Ball that evening.
Chris Kalberg from Sutton Nebraska returns to his cow testing job in Sutton after recovering from a severe flu that caused a 25 pound weight loss. He is back to work and resumed testing cattle for Sioux County.
Mrs. C. Houtsma spends a week in Salt Lake City with her sister Mrs. Bernard Vos and family. Mrs. Ray Smit and daughter Janice stay in the Houtsma home during the week.
Herman Meester sustained a severe hand injury after a fall from a step ladder at the Creamery on Friday afternoon. His hand struck churn gears during the incident.
Laurence Grooters of Boyden chosen as member of the University of Redlands male quartet. He is a Boyden High School graduate active in music. The quartet will perform during the University Glee Club tour to San Francisco Oakland and other Bay Area communities. Grooters plans to teach music after graduation at Redlands School of Music.
Bert Nash experienced a mild pleurisy attack this week. Doctor Balkema of Sheldon diagnosed and prescribed treatment.
Buddy Hollander Bert Nash and Ferdinand Meyners were among visitors to Sheldon on Saturday evening.
Myrna Kamminga of Moneta spent the week end with her grandparents Mr and Mrs R Kamminga.
Phyllis Peters and Esther Mlazgar with Bernard Klein of Hes pers and Laurence Hayes of peice traveled Sunday to Sioux City for a brief visit.
Several women from Boyden assisted a Wednesday quilting event held at the Ver Hoef home in Sanborn. Among those present were Mesdames Ike Struyk John Casemier Peter Herweynen Rob Moret Grandma Ver Hoef Ed Diekevers Albert and Robert Dethmers.
