Henry Van Nyhuis sold his 125 acre farm near Boyden to G. Vande Gaarde. Priced at 450 dollars per acre, the land lies a quarter mile from town with modern buildings. Possession is set for March 1 1920 and the Van Nyhuis family plans to stay in Boyden before exploring the west.
Fourteen members of the Sioux County Bankers Association gathered in Orange City last Saturday. They endorsed M D Gibbs for president of the Iowa Bankers Association and proposed deducting Liberty Bonds from assessments. Banks set a minimum $250 charge for the first hour and $2.50 for each additional hour for income tax returns. All county banks belong to the association. Elected officers were Vander Meide president W S Short vice president W l Eddy secretary and treasurer.
Mrs Mike Johnson and Mrs A Versteegt were passengers to Sheldon last Thursday afternoon. Wm Bothof has safely arrived at New York and is now in a hospital there receiving treatment for his wounds. We will certainly be glad when all the boys get back home again.
Elmer Goodyear of Monroe Saturday fixed a shoulder and loaded immigrant goods for Bancroft when a team hitched to a double row cultivator began moving. He attempted to stop them, grabbed the lines, and was dragged as the cultivator ran away. He escaped serious injury though likely to be laid up a month. The team struck a tree, halting further damage.
Notice is given that on February 24 1919 the District Court of Sioux County Iowa appointed Herman Meyn administrator of the estate of Herman Timmer deceased. Albert Steven, longtime resident with the Joe Ste ven family, died last Saturday from influenza complications leading to pneumonia. Born in Gibranin Syria, he was 52. He leaves a wife, two daughters, and a son plus other relatives. Body sent to Sioux City for interment. Mr Steven had been in the country about nine years.
Sioux County board offers tax exemptions or refunds for returning soldiers and those in service, requiring sworn affidavits with induction, discharge dates, taxing district, and year assessed. Notary required. affidavits may be filed by those in service or knowledgeable guardians.
Henry Smith family ill with the flu. Mr. and Mrs. George Brinks welcomed a baby girl last Friday morning.
