Pretty wedding in Boyden ties Cornelia Kooiman to Arnold Wassink

Miss Cornelia Kooiman and Arnold Wassink wed at the Kooiman home in Boyden in a 1 PM ceremony witnessed by about 300 relatives. Rev. Brink officiated. Roelofs and Floyd Wassink attended the couple. The bride wore white satin. Harriet Vander Maaten was flower girl. The couple will reside in Hull, Iowa, where Wassink runs a grocery. Local guests include Gerrit Vuerink and family and Lilian and Cornelius Landhuis amid home construction news nearby.

A large responsive congregation welcomed Rev Denbon Fr. Cleveland at the Reformed church on Sunday evening. Festive praise and an uplifting sermon contrasted with heat discomfort, as parishioners praised him and requested a return visit next year. Wind storm causes limited damage in region

A week of wind storms caused little damage locally but caused havoc in Granville and nearby towns. In Sioux Center large trees fell on a public school yard and telephone lines between LeMars and Sioux Center were wrecked. A gravel crew in Boyden suffered severe losses as a conveyor and other equipment twisted under the wind. Some shacks and vehicles were tipped or damaged, though no injuries were reported. Dooley Van Diepen reset the crane and righted a toppled shack the next day.

Soap Shicker Visits Boyden in Large Car Promotions

Soft soap salesmen with a large car visited Boyden homes and businesses offering a bargain set. A buyer’s soap caused facial blisters after use. Similar ploys reported in Sheldon with soap containing wooden centers and cheap lye and pine wood.
