Reverend Cleveland the radio pastor from WNAX will deliver a gospel message to Boyden and surrounding residents. The service will start in the high school auditorium and a second service will be held at the U P church for overflow attendees.
Dr. E. R. Carter, a graduate of Iowa State College Ames with a veterinary degree, will practice in Boyden above the hardware store. He forms a partnership with Dr. Overbaugh of Hull. Carter, a Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta member, led the veterinary ROTC unit at Ames.
Mr and Mrs Herman Meyer from Nanover Germany visit the John Fick Peter Fick and August Fick homes near Boyden. They are joined by Mr and Mrs Heinrich Sohl of Hanover Germany visiting friends and relatives in this vicinity and in Pipestone Minnesota.
Today two weddings take place in the area. Bernard Verhoef will wed Alvina Bos at Hull Iowa at noon. Arnold Was sink will marry Cornelia Kooilman at her parents home. Details to follow next week. Stutzman Kirsch marriage announced for Lloyd Stutzman of Sioux City and Mises Kirsch July 27 1929 in Sterling Colorado.
A reader, Mr C Tuinstra, confirms twenty five years of subscribing to the Reporter and asks whether others have maintained long paid up memberships. Mrs Tuinstra is noted as similarly long subscribed. Notices of local agricultural sales and orchard spray products are also mentioned alongside social calls by area residents.
Rev. John M. Lumkes emeritus pastor is honored for forty years in the ministry with ordination in 1890 and service at 163 churches. He baptized 900 children, preached 450 sermons in Holland, and delivered 6,206 sermons overall before his last sermon in 1930. He later moved to Holland Nebraska and is listed as pastor emeritus.
Friends and their families gathered Friday evening to surprise John Prins for his birthday. The group arrived in cars loaded with cars and included hosts Mr and Mrs Bastian Dekker and families, Mr and Mrs Henry Heusinkveld and families, and several other local residents. The quirky turnout and repeated attempts to surprise highlight a festive neighborhood gathering.
