Congressman W D Botes of Sheldon remains in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City after weeks of nervous breakdown recovery. A blood transfusion was given on Sunday, with a pint donated by Morningside athlete Russell Pete Knudson. The 70 plus year old member had announced retirement at term end. The Boyden Reporter office plans closure Friday through next Monday for staff travel to Stuart Iowa where the Hinkson family reunion will be attended. Joint Picnic At Sheldon July Fourth Across Counties
The first annual joint picnic of O'Brien and Sioux counties farm bureaus will be in Sheldon at the city park on July 4. An all day program includes a forenoon graduation ceremony for rural eighth graders, afternoon band music and a three o’clock baseball game, and an evening program with 4-H stunts, open air movies, and a dance at the armory.

The United Chautauquas of Des Moines promises big attractions including The Whole Towns Talking Daddy Long Legs and Pamahasikas Society Circus plus strong music and notable speakers. Sioux County Awards Bridge Contracts in Two Projects
Soven and Christensen awarded a 60-foot bridge on Primary Road 75 near the million dollar corner at $8 500. Federal Bridge Co. wins a 90-foot bridge on Primary Road 10 east of Hawarden at $10 236. Total about $7 000 under the highway commission estimate. District Engineer B G Dunn spoke on a Per SIoux City Sheldon primary road along the Omaha line with low grades.
