Reporter recalls 140 miles of flood area from Ashton to Alton and Boyden to Sheldon in seven hours. Swift waters wash out road grades and bridges. a car is swept near Hospers and the driver escapes by grabbing railroad tracks. Debris shows water rose high, nearly covering the car.
Reporter photographer starts at 4 30 A.M. and travels 160 miles to cover flood damage. Some areas unreachable due to washed bridges and roads. Roads crowded with sightseers hinder relief work. Photo plane stranded by mud at Sheldon airport. Engraving division completes flood images for the week edition after overnight work and water shortages. Star routes and post office cooperation accelerate distribution despite rail ties.
The schedule lists morning worship at 9 30 A M afternoon worship at 1 30 P M Sunday School at 8 00 P M and Christian Endeavor at 7 30 P M led by Rev Henri Steunenberg with related service times.
Rev. Henry Bank presides at United Presbyterian Church with Sunday School at 9 45 AM Morning Worship at 11 AM and Evening Worship at 7 30 PM continuing the weekly program.
St. John Lutheran Church announced a Sunday service led by Pastor H. J. Knoploh. The notice lists the church location and speaker for the day.
St John Lutheran Church hosts its annual Mission Festival on Sunday June 14 with a German sermon at 8 30 AM delivered by Rev A Zenk of Brunsville and a 10 15 AM service speaker Rev K Lunder, followed by a 2 30 PM service. Pastor Lunder teaches at Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. A sound film Out of the Dust screens at 8 PM and the public is invited to attend.
The Sunday School picnic of the First Reformed Church is scheduled for Tuesday June 16. Guest speakers will be Rev and Mrs Lee Crandall for the evening program.
Miss Anona Rensink daughter of Mr and Mrs Len Rensink will wed Mr Frank Elliott Friday evening at 7 45 June 12 in the First Reformed church Boyden. The public is invited to witness the ceremony.
Boyden stores will close at 6 15 P M on weekdays, with Saturday nights as an exception, following a Commercial Club decision made at its Tuesday meeting.
At a Tuesday meeting the Boyden Commercial Club approved signs for participating merchants in a weekly free drawing held each Saturday. The club also discussed adding a volleyball and horseshoes court and repairing the Boyden sign with a vandalism reward.
The Boyden Commercial Club will construct a volleyball and horseshoe court soon. Volunteers are needed to help erect lights and related tasks. Call the Reporter Office if you can assist. the club will provide one volleyball and a safe storage area. losses are not replaced.

IPS and other distributors plan to intervene at a June 23 Federal Power Commission hearing on Northern Natural Gas Co certificates. IPS president George A. Neal says the all out effort aims to secure extra gas for communities in IPS service area amid competition among towns and companies. The fate of certification for many towns rests with the FPC after weeks of testimony.
