The Sioux County American Legion and Auxiliary will jointly meet in Sioux Center on Tuesday evening February 11. The Sioux Center post and its auxiliary plan an important business session and urge all Legionnaires and Auxiliaries to attend, with posts and units to ensure representation.
Receiver John Versteeg of the Bank of Matlock will be at the former bank building in Matlock all day Saturday February 1 to hand out the dividend checks. The 31 percent final dividend brings total dividends paid to 81 percent. Also, the sub-county declamatory contest was held at the high school auditorium with winners Lorraine McCrum Gerrit Rens Marion DeVelder Gordon Jansma Hosper s taking top honors.
Hull defeats Little Rock 18 to 16 in a hard fought game reported by Thomas Stirling. James Wede scored early baskets as Hull led 7 4 after the first quarter and the Hull players controlled play with aggressive ball handling and steps.
The Great Croton Oil Mystery in Rock Rounds and nearby areas remains unsolved though open to debate. Many believe the victims of the prank will pursue the culprit who doped soup at a Rock Rapids men’s club dinner or luncheon. About twenty members suffered distress and embarrassment from the incident. Abraham Van Roekel is ill this week. Gertrude Van Roekel visited Orange City relatives last week. The Van Roekels and Bert Van Roekel attended Bert Van Roekel’s funeral in Orange City last Tuesday. Robert Kuyper is sick. Mr. and Mrs. R. Kamminga visited Sioux City on Wednesday.
The January term opens with jurors dismissed then adjourns. Several cases see pleadings deadlines: Allen Van Weenen vs John P Muilenburg, January 23 to plead. First National Bank of Hull vs Thys Post dismissed with costs against plaintiff. Farmers Savings Bank of Alvord vs C P Bouma one case to plead by ten days. Vander Proats vs Simon Vogelzang listed for trial as first jury case. Royal Indemnity Co vs Vanderry Schaats and Vander Stouwe given seven days to plead. Blanche Husted vs H M Wisalik seven days to plead. E B Elusted vs H M Wigsink seven days to plead. John Willem sed va John Van Pelt plaintiff given 30 days to file motion for costs fixed at 150 dollars.
Boyden unit of the American Legion Auxiliary will be honored with a national citation at the department convention in August. The award, presented by the national president, recognizes the unit meeting its membership quota by December 31, 1929.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly meeting at Mrs. Wicors Heitritter’s home on Tuesday evening February 4. Members are urged to attend. Local residents report relatives returning from Michigan and Grundy Center while others visit friends in Rock Valley and Orange City. A Christian School program at the Reformed church basement Wednesday at 7 45 features Rev. Brink and Rev Beving with music and refreshments planned.
