The calendar lists morning worship at 9 30, afternoon worship at 1 30, Sunday School at 8, Christian Endeavor at 7 30, and Saturday catechism classes. Ladies Aid meets Thursday at 2. Next Sunday Rev Henry Bank leads morning services and Rev W Klaaren from Sioux Center leads afternoon services.
The United Presbyterian Church announces Sabbath School at 10 00 A M Morning Worship at 11 00 A M and Evening Worship at 7 30 P M led by Pastor Rev Henry Bank with worship opportunities for parishioners.
The notice lists services by St John Lutheran with German service at 8 30 A M English service at 10 45 A M Sunday School at 9 30 A M Adult Bible Class at 9 40 A M and announcements. Also a church council meeting January 26 and Ladies Aid meeting January 25 to 31 with February meeting at 2 00 P M.
Mr and Mrs Connie Koersel welcome a baby boy Tuesday at Sioux Center hospital with grandmother Johanna Landhuis Boyden. Mr and Mrs Wm Mouw announce a son George born Tuesday at home, with three brothers and one sister. Mr and Mrs Casey Smit welcome Larry Ray born Monday at Sheldon hospital weighing 7 lbs 8 oz, with one brother. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Dick Smit of George and Mr and Mrs John Ver Meer.
Sick residents include Cornie Van Meeteren who worsened from flu to pneumonia and remains ill. G P Horn is critically ill from a fall. Casey Smit and son Larry Roy returned home from Sheldon hospital. Duane Gordon contracted mumps Sunday. Arthur E Miller shows little or no improvement.
All games except Tuesday January 27 will be at Orange City Town Hall. Tuesday games will be at George Allee Memorial Gym Morningside College Sioux City.
Pleun De Zeeuw and Eva Mae Wells united in marriage in El Paso Texas at the Colwell home. Rev D W McElroy officiated before friends with an evergreen altar. The bride, a Honey Grove Texas native, works for the Bureau of Reclamation and has two children. The groom is connected to William Beaumont Army Hospital and served in Korea after WWII. They will reside at 8723 Hueco Street El Paso.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Haze and Dean spent Sunday in Spencer. Families from Sib ley Sanborn Hull Sioux City George and other nearby towns visited or hosted events and dinners. Several guests called on polio patient Walter Greveing at St Joseph hospital and numerous Sunday and weekday visits completed the social calendar.
Conservation biologist Earl Rose notes winter fishing near Okoboji held steady with perch leading catches. December 29 shows 0.84 fish per man hour, while January records show 856 shacks with 47 occupied at West Okoboji. Notable catches include a 10.5 lb northern and a 7.5 lb walleye, with many walleyes around four pounds and young herringlets observed. Live minnows remain the key bait.
Mrs Earling Kosters formerly Norma Horn learned this past week that her husband will sail for Japan on January 13. The notice confirms the upcoming voyage and the couple’s connection to the service member.
Mrs. Henry Bosman hosted a Monday birthday party with guests from Sheldon Orange City and nearby towns. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. John Veen, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Walthuizen, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brinks, and many others. A two course lunch followed games.
Miss Elaine Vander Gaarde hosted a rollerskating party at the Sheldon roller rink Friday evening for a group of girls. Guests included Beverly Boelsma Patsy Baartman Gladys Vander Gaarde Brenda Mieras Beverly Nancy Gordon Mary Ellen Salmon Linda Moret and Nelva Moret. After skating, Elaine treated the guests to lunch.
Mrs. Johanna Brinks marked her 86th birthday at the Martin Cuperns home Friday evening with family and relatives from Boyden Sheldon Orange City and their families. A social evening followed the celebration.
Mr and Mrs Henry Auberg Jr and family were Sunday evening guests in Hull. Mr and Mrs Alfred Doorenbos and Mrs H M Scholten visited in Sibley. Ben Dykstra and children from Hull dined with John Dykstra. Herman Meester attended Mrs John Hudson funeral in Sheldon. Ed Van Zandbergen of Hespers called on daughter Henry Jacobson family. George Brinks and Dick Koerselman visited Hull. Clarence Postma and children visited Fred Wilt in Ahcher.
