The George girls defeated Doon 81 to 49 to win the Lyon County basketball title led by L Kluver, a 5 foot 10 inch forward. In the consolation game Alvord edged Little Rock 45 to 43 after a close second half.
The Society for Christian Instruction will meet Tuesday afternoon January 20 above the Farmers Co op Lumber Dept office to decide about dissolving the society. The Old Board attended the lumber convention in Minneapolis this week with Mr Linus Smid Mr Henry Broasder and Mr Albert Winter attending.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Van Velzen arrived home Monday evening from Alaska and will spend a week of furlough with the home folks.
Sioux County announces March of Dimes drive leaders and canvassing plans as state basic skills tests scatter students. Third through fifth grades take tests January 14 15 and 16 with other grades affected. Community chairmen report steady starts and ongoing house to house canvassing amid polio epidemic concerns.
Mr and Mrs Harry Balster visited with Mrs Ben Dressen Sr and family and Mr and Mrs John Bergman and family on Saturday evening at the Jacob Stratmeier home.
The 1953 Chevrolet shown at Kooiker Chevrolet Co in Hull resembles the Cadillac with wider lower lines and a handsome interior. The photo from the showroom last week suggests the new model will be popular again this year.
The Sioux County Schoolmasters gathered at Roc Valley on Thursday evening January 8 with Mr Hulst and Mr Vanden Berg and four cheerleaders in attendance. Cheerleaders from Boyden Frances Van Meeteren Sandra Verrips Dorothy De Boer and Marion Vagts attended as guests. The group discussed sportsmanship at basketball games and tournaments.
The county seeks 28150 from townships and communities to battle polio as cases rise nationwide from 1949 to 1952. Quotas list Alton Bowenstown and Granville through Ireton Hospers Hull Orange City Sioux Center and others, with chairmen named for each area.
Mrs Wilbur Vander Tuig and Mrs Larry Salmon hosted a Saturday dinner in honor of their mothers birthday at the Salmon home. Guests included Mr and Mrs Henry Bosman and family and Mr and Mrs Wilbur Vander Tuig and sons of Sheldon.
SICK Mr. Arthur E Miller took sick Sunday with pneumonia. Miss Nyla Hintz came home Saturday from a Sioux City hospital and now is convalescing at the home of her parents. Eddie Dickevers is quite sick with grand trouble at this time Mr. John Grooters returned home Sunday afternoon from the Sheldon hospital.
The Sheridan Homemakers met January 9 at Mrs. Donald Vande Garde's home. Sixteen members answered roll call and conducted a brief business session. The afternoon featured painting decorations on wooden items like plates and salt and pepper shakers, with refreshments served by the hostess.
