Sunday visitors in Shel don Vernon Ingalls home include Mr and Mrs George Diekevers and Mr and Mrs Adrian Diekevers and family who came to see their ill mother Mrs Ed Diekevers. Also Ben Koerselman Hildred Dykstra and son visited Harold Wortman in George and Tom Ver Wyke of Rock Valley visited Emma Stutzman Friday.
Local families from Sheldon Sioux Center and surrounding towns gathered for New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve meals. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Jake Van Diepen with family, Eva King, Alfred Doorenbos, H M Scholten, Gerben De Kok, Archer, and many others. Several visits occurred at the Bonnema, Salmon, Struyk, Dykstra, Slothouber, Roseboom, Siderius, and Rensink homes with extended family attending. A wartime marriage was noted as Ver non Van Dyke wed a German bride while stationed in Germany.
The County Legion and Auxiliary will meet at Rock Valley High School on January 14 at 8 PM. Speakers include Donald Johnson Department Commander and a draft board member.
The Sioux Center American Legion Chorus will present a sacred concert at the First Reformed Church in Hull on Sunday evening beginning at 7 45 P M. No admission will be charged with a free will offering to be taken.
Boyden voters approve Ordinance No. 60 granting a non exclusive natural gas franchise to Iowa Public Service Co for 25 years. Total 104 ballots with 8 yes 4 no and two spoiled. Franchise extends if gas arrives within five years and company advances line from Paullina to Sioux Falls serving Boyden and nearby towns.
A series of social visits and moves are reported. Mr. and Mrs. John De Jong plan a month long trip to Weed California to visit their daughter. Several families host gatherings in various homes including Vanden Berg, Van Gorp, De Groot, Oldenkamp, Ver Meer, Vanden Brink, Diekevers, Schoep, Kuypers, and Dokter families.
The Sheridan Homemakers will meet Friday January 9 at 1:00 PM at the home of Mrs. Mar Jean Vande Gaarde. Roll call will be on International Rel woodcraft. The program features artist brush techniques. attendees should bring their brushes.
The Rev. Henri J. Steunenburg of East Williamson New York has accepted his call to serve at the First Reformed Church of Boyden in a local church appointment.
Mr and Mrs Sylvester Rensink report a Christmas Day call from their son Lloyd Rensink who is stationed at Whidbey Island. He said he would leave this week for a camp in Alaska.
Mr and Mrs Casie Slothouber celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on Monday evening guests included Mr and Mrs Bert Bosma Sheldon Mr and Mrs Marvin Bosma and family Sanborn Mr and Mrs Gerrit Slothouber Mr and Mrs Tony Slothouber and children Mr and Mrs Gerrit E Slothouber and sons A social evening followed by a two course luncheon.
Mrs. Emma Stutzman received a telegram Monday announcing the death of her sister-in-law Mrs. Josie Stutzman of Hot Springs Arkansas. Formerly of Boyden she worked as a telephone operator before dial phones. Funeral held Tuesday January 6 in Hot Springs.
Mrs. Roy Riemers remains confined to Sioux City hospital. Mrs. John Humme has mumps at the Walter Dickevers residence. Donald Dunnick suffered first degree burns? No, eighth degree burns on his arm at a rendering plant. Carol Egdorf underwent leg surgery at St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City.

Mr and Mrs Leonard Korthals received a letter from Pvt Lawrence Korthals written December 18 expressing gratitude for Christmas cards and boxes from Boyden friends. Lawrence is a carpenter at the Pusan loading docks turning to hospital work there and his New Year greeting came from sister Mrs Cara Den Braber of St Petersburg Florida.
Brown Swiss breeder Alfred Ficke of Boyden Iowa sold Lily Bell's Piper 113852 to Mark B Thiele of Sibley Iowa. He also sold Fanny Bob 112306 to George Joller of Canton South Dakota.
A Social Security representative will be at the Orange City Court House at 9 A M on Thursday January 9 1953 to take claims for monthly retirement and survivors benefits and lump sum payments. He will aid in checking accounts to ensure earnings are properly credited and explain work on a farm private home or self employment.
Pett C Baartman was arrested by Night Officer Pete Zuiderhof and brought before the mayor's court. He was fined twenty five dollars plus four dollars costs for reckless driving.
