Car Crash Northwest of Boyden Injures Three

Mr and Mrs William Hollander of Boyden and Richard Dickmann of near Hull were in a Sunday afternoon collision northwest of Boyden at an intersection. Mrs Hollander went through the windshield with chest and head injuries, Mr Hollander escaped with bruises, Dickmann suffered a deep cut above the right eye and glass wounds. They were taken to Sibley hospital where the men were dismissed and Mrs Hollander remained for treatment as both cars suffered heavy damage.

The Northwest Iowa District Plowing Match and Queen of the Furrow contest are planned for Monday at the Lester Hansen farm near Sheldon. Boyden Public School preparations indicate an Aug 26 start for the 1957 58 year with 9 00 a m opening, 11 00 a m registration, and early dismissal for kindergarten through third grade. Local Instructor At Fred Waring Workshop In Boulder

Fran ces Anderson of Remsen Iowa was hired as vocal instructor for Boyden Public Schools and attended the Fred Waring Workshop at the University of Colorado August 11 16. Led by Lara Hoggard the Pennsylvanians staff over 170 choral directors and singers from several states. The 40 hour intensive course taught Waring techniques of rehearsal and performance focusing on tone syllables and enunciation.

Miss Phyllis Steunenberg daughter of Rev and Mrs Henri Steunenberg of Boyden is enrolled at Hope College Holland Michigan for the school year 1957 58. Free Entry For Under Sixteen At Iowa State Fair Opener

The Iowa State Fair opens Friday in Des Moines signaling a 10 day run through September 1 with all children under 16 admitted free at the outside gate. A grandstand show starts at 9 30 a m. Friday and 4 H and FFA livestock judging begins tomorrow along with auto races and a musical revue featuring Brenda Lee. Exposition officials report heavy entries across departments and a larger schedule of events including farm shows, science hall and armed forces displays.

Boyden School to Begin Hot Lunch Aug 27

The Boyden Hot Lunch Program will start Tuesday, August 27 with Mrs. Virgil Smith and Mrs. Arie Struyk in charge. Meals will cost 30 cents per day or 1.50 per week, with 35 cents per single meal. Milk is available at a small extra charge and menus for the first week include hamburger patties, hot dogs, meatloaf, and spaghetti with desserts.
