Iowa hunting seasons and local visits noted

The Conservation Commission opens squirrel and rabbit seasons with dates and bag limits. Squirrels six per day twelve possession, rabbits ten per day no limit. Pheasants, quail, and fur bearers to be set at future meetings. Local residents La Vonne Rouwenhorst and others visited or hosted in recent days.

Boyden School Opens Monday Morning August 30th

The new school year starts Monday August 30 with students assembling at 9 a.m. to begin work. Parents are urged to value education and avoid distractions of high wage jobs. No school Monday afternoon. regular classes resume Tuesday morning. Miss Cora Anderson will teach Home Economics General Science and Bookkeeping. she previously taught at Oto Iowa for six years.

Mr and Mrs John Houtsma of Hospers and Mrs Andrew Dykstra of Chicago were callers in the Ray Smit home Monday.

Flies Plane Home To Visit Parents

Vincent Peters of Iowa City spent a few days in the parental Bernard Peters home after flying to Sheldon airport Monday where his parents met him and took him to Boyden. He returned to Iowa City by plane Wednesday to resume studies at the University of Iowa.

A large crowd estimated at 1500 attended the Monahan Post Band concert in Boyden last Friday, followed by the LeMars Eagles defeating the LeMars Coops 4 to 1 in the softball final. Fans praised the event and urged a return next year as organizers seek more funding for future games and tournaments.

Holland cattle buyer visits meat market

Mr. John Vander Schel of Leeuwarden Netherlands and Mr. Ed Vander Werff of Hull visit Smit and Son Meat Market to inspect the modern plant. Vander Schel, a cattle buyer, notes Holland still buys meat on the point basis. Mrs. Vander Werff accompanies the group. they arrived July 8 and their 84 year old mother-in-law travels with them.

Local women visit relatives and receive hospital care

Mrs. John Dykstra underwent surgery at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City Friday and expects to return home soon. Mrs. Hilda Long and her son of Hull are visiting Detroit for two weeks. Mrs. Fred Boerhave of Princes town Minnesota stayed with Mrs. Dykstra and at Tuteran Hospital in Sioux City from Friday to Sunday.
