12th Annual Appreciation Day Planned for Hull
Plans are complete for the 12th Annual Appreciation Day in Hull on Thursday August 25 1960 Stores will close at 11 00 a m to allow purchases and participation. Marked by rides for children and youths with free ride tickets, Main Street concessions under American Legion sponsorship and auxiliary lunches in the Community Memorial Building basement. Events include pony and bicycle races 12 45 p m to 1 45 p m sports for children 2 00 p m to 8 p m horse races at Ball Park with prizes totaling 200 dollars. Afternoon variety acts and an 8 00 p m show by the Hal Garvin Agency with free admission. A 10 00 p m prize drawing valued at 125 dollars. committees urged to prepare for a successful day.

Memorial Chapel Fund Grows At Northwestern College
Northwestern College received two memorial gifts through the First Reformed Church of Orange City Iowa a 3750 bequest from the late Dr Gerrit Pennings missionary to Arabia and a 55 memorial from the Vander Maten family. The total Memorial Chapel Fund nears 24000 and the college board of trustees approved the chapel as the next major campus project.

Sioux Center readers learn Sandra Van Veldhuizen, daughter of Wilmer and Mrs Van Veldhuizen of Hull, is a candidate for Sioux County Youth Fair Queen. Eight finalists compete in a county wide popular vote at the fair grounds August 9 10 and 11. The queen wins a 125 Princess Diamond dinner ring from Van's Jewelry and a rhinestone tiara. Attendees include local and visiting families plus a funeral group from several states.

Hereford Show Draws 610 Cattle At State Fair
Boyden farmers lead 80 exhibitors from 17 states entering 610 registered Herefords for the World Conference Hereford Show at the Iowa State Fair. The event opens August 21 in Kansas City with nine foreign delegates. A $17,500 premium list includes a $2,000 state incentive. Richard Green and Son of Boyden will exhibit nine head.
