Butter Production Doubles In Six Years In Iowa
The Dairy and Food Division reports Iowa creameries doubled butter output from 86 179 612 pounds in 1920 to 172 257 863 pounds in 1926. Cows rose 30 percent and creameries 13 percent, with improved per cow and per creamery efficiency boosting dairy profits. State American Legion Convention in Des Moines
Ten thousand World War veterans are expected to attend the state American Legion Convention in Des Moines August 15 16 and 17 with cash prizes of 3800 for winning bands and drum and bugle corps. A mass meeting in Orange City favored building a Pioneer Home for the elderly. About 313,000 has been pledged toward a 15,000 dollar project cost. A permanent board was formed with Gerrit Klay, G J Slobe, Sam Muilenburg, R D Cook, Y Mulder, Wm Scholten, G Reinders, John Roghair, J A Muilenburg, R Menning, Mrs A J Betten, and Mrs Elizabeth Vander Schoor. Vote on light franchise at Sheldon
A special election will be held in Sheldon on August 25 to decide granting a franchise to Western States Public Utilities Co of Lincoln Neb. The plan includes a $250,000 plant with a 10 year right for the city to buy, depreciation at 5 percent annually. Iowa Public Service Co currently supplies power and argues rates are too high, while it announces new lower rates will begin soon in Sheldon.
