Members of the Boyden Bowling Leagues and families will attend the annual post season banquet on Tuesday May 3 in the Community Memorial Building basement Hull. L Trio Catering Service will serve the meal. Trophies patches prizes and a speech will be awarded. Ticket sales promise a full house.

Floyd Valley topped Boyden Hull 6 to 3 in Hull with W Zuiderhof R Groeters and D Hesla rotating on the mound. Roos earned the win for Floyd Valley while Boyden Hull used three pitchers. In the sectional at Larchwood Hull Western Christian edged Boyden Hull 5 4 as all Western runs came on errors with Bob De Jong the winning pitcher.

Rites For Henry Vande Griend Held In Hull

Henry Vande Griend 78 of Hull died suddenly Monday afternoon from a heart attack while on a tractor. Funeral services are Friday April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hull home and 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. H. C. Van Deelen will officiate with interment at Hope Cemetery.

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 272 Boyden Iowa met Monday evening April 18 with twelve Junior and twenty-one Senior members present. Debates included a prayer book contest deadline May 16 and bake sale May 7 at Peters Store.

Name Contest Set for New Iowa Crippled Children Camp

A contest to name Iowa’s new summer camp for crippled children is announced by Thomas Teas of Crippled Children and Adults. It targets writers in Iowa media and a special student prize is planned. The camp between Ankeny and Des Moines will serve 450 to 500 children per two week session.

New Boyden Post Office Opens With Mail Delivery Today

Patrons in Boyden Iowa received mail from the new post office building today for the first time. The modern facility, built by Ray and wife Mary Smit of Boyden and leased to the U S Post Office Department for 10 years, features contractor Vernon Van Ommeren and government specifications delays. Hoeven Seeks Expanded Soil Bank Plan in House Bill

Rep Charles B. Hoeven of Iowa 8th District introduced a House bill to extend the Conservation Reserve Program for three years to December 31 1963. The measure would authorize retiring up to 60 million acres and allow in kind payments in surplus wheat and feed grains for Conservation Reserve rentals. It preserves rules excluding land reclaimed under Federal projects from Soil Bank or price supports. Hoeven leads on the Agriculture Committee and the proposals align with Eisenhower recommendations.

Mrs Ed Blumeyer Invited to Join Farm Council

Mrs Ed Blumeyer of Boyden has been invited to participate in the Farm Council organized by the Republican State Central Committee for the 1960 campaign. The Lincoln Loggers 4-H Club met at Clifford Pollema’s home on April 18 with nine members. Officers and delegates were chosen for 4-H Camp, and forms for record books were updated. A talk on the 4-H banquet was given and the next meeting set for May 18 in the park.
