School officials propose gradual rise in kindergarten entry age. For 1960 61 children must be 5 by September 15 to enroll with birth certificates required for full enrollment. The document notes common birth record errors and the need for accurate name spelling birth date and birthplace data for school records and external confirmations.
The Lincoln Township Farm Bureau Women’s Group will meet Friday April 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Mrs. Bert De Zeeuw’s home with co host Mrs. Wm Riphagen. Devotions by Mrs. E Van Veldhuizen. Program on Sewing Tips by Fola Booth and toy animal making by Mrs. Wm Van ’t Hul. Roll call Household Hint.
Large crowds attended a range of Holy Week services across Protestant churches in the Hull and Boyden area. congregations filled overflows as they observed the passion and death of Jesus Christ, the Saviour, during Holy Week events.
The Rev. Harold Vande Berg a Church of South India missionary will speak at Northwestern College Alumni Banquet on May 28. He studies Greek there with Dr. Sylvio Scorza during furlough and has lived as a missionary in India since 1946, based in Adoni Andhra State.
Morningside College hosts its 33rd annual science exposition on April 28 and 29 with about 65 college students and Siouxland high school pupils presenting 44 demonstrations. Exhibits span three floors of A. W. Jones Hall with physics bio chemistry and home economics displays and an electro telescope observatory open for inspection. A rocket demonstration will occur on the campus lawn alongside the exhibits.
District Supervisor Gordon C. Hollar announced a special 1960 Census drive with squads and crew leaders fanning out on the night of April 20 to locate people without fixed addresses. Takers will visit missions theaters and city parks to ensure all residents are counted and remind that 18 plus must answer. confidentiality is guaranteed and penalties for noncompliance include fines or jail.
At a recent Hull Christian School society meeting, members approved a 36 by 60 foot addition to the east of the current building. The two-room expansion will include a hall, costing about $20,000, with construction planned to start around May 1.
At the April P T A meeting in Boyden the Boyden Hull Community School elects Dr H Paul Borks of Hull as president Henry Reavers of Boyden as vice president and Mrs Glenn Vande Garde of Boyden as secretary treasurer Plans for the annual Summer Round Up of pre school children were made with the date May 5 set and details to follow in next week’s paper.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association sectional tournament will be staged in Larchwood Iowa with games on April 23 25 and 27 1960 Pairings include Hull Western Christian versus Hull Boyden Hull at 1 00 p m and Larchwood St Marys versus Inwood West Lyon at 2 30 p m on Saturday West Lyon meets the winner of the St Marys Inwood game Monday at 3 00 p m and the Wednesday final pits the Hull Western Christian winner against the Monday winner for the championship
Paul Oelrich led Boyden Hull with two school records in field and football events. The Medley Relay placed third after a baton mishap. Norman Van Sloten Arlen Korthals Merlyn De Boer and others posted multiple top positions across sprints distance events hurdles relays and field events.
Raymond Donkersloot was not present to claim the $25 prize in Saturday’s drawing. Two more drawings of $25 remain this Saturday April 23 at 8 30 p m when the fire siren sounds with time changed.
St John Lutheran Church will break ground for a new sanctuary four miles north of Boyden. The project, designed by Phorson Gjelten and Schellberg Architects of Forest City, Iowa, is valued at 100000 dollars. Schuster Construction Company of Worthington Minnesota has the contract. Groundbreaking ceremonies are set for Sunday April 24 at 1130 am after worship. Construction starts immediately.
Mrs. Duistermars opened the Hull HiWay Drive In for the summer season last Friday afternoon. The popular eating place has had very good business so far with hours from 3 30 p m each weekday except Saturday and from 1 p m on Saturdays until school ends. After that opening hours will be announced.

American Legion Auxiliary Wegman KeeLe Unit 380 in Hull Iowa will hold its regular meeting this evening at 8 00 p m in the Legion Room The postponement was necessary due to Holy Week observances in Hull
Sixty nine cadets were recommended for varsity letters in eight winter sports for 1959 60 at the Air Force Academy. Gy m nastics and swimming each had twelve selections followed by fencing with ten and basketball with nine. Captain Don Wolfswinkel of Hull Iowa is named among the basketball letter recipients.
The Busy Bees 4-H Club will meet Saturday at 1 30 p.m. at the Legion Hall. All girls are asked to attend to work on record books with Diane Boone as hostess. Remember the time.
At Wegman Keele Post 380 meeting on April 18 two Hull youths were chosen to represent Hull at Iowa Boys State this summer. Selected alternates were Calvin Kooiker and Nolan Vander Ark to fill in if needed.
Boyden Hull High School seniors operate the De Jong Oil Champlin Station for one day on Saturday April 23 from 7 AM to 10 PM to raise funds for their senior skip day. They invite friends to provide customer support and business.
More than 900 members of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary are expected to attend the Ninth District Spring Conference in Spencer on April 26. The event includes district officers election, a large parade with memorial services, jet plane exhibition, and a joint banquet with speeches by John W. Moore, Mrs. Glenn Hultquist, Governor Loveless, and Spencer Mayor Cliff Bowman.
The Cub Scouts of Pack 206 plan a pack meeting on Wednesday April 27 at the Boyden den school auditorium. A pot luck supper starts at 6 30 p.m. Awards will be given and the Pinewood Derby cars raced. Cubs and fathers worked on wooden racers as a father and son project. All Cubs parents and families are invited.
The Sheridan Sunshiners 4 H Club will meet Saturday April 23 at 7 00 p.m. at Ellen Wiekamp's home near Matlock.
The Dordt College Choir from Sioux Center under Dale Grotenhuis will give its last concert of the season on Sunday April 24 at 7 30 PM in the First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

The Lincoln Merry Maidens gathered at Judy Waanders home on April 4. They opened with the 4-H pledge and learned blouse construction details from Janyce Vander Berg and Mary Zoet. Judges from Rock Valley named Carole Van Roekel best groomed, Ruth Hensch second. Next meeting planned for May 3 at Hendrene and Mary Zoet’s home. Seven members and two leaders attended. A motion to adjourn preceded lunch prepared by Judy and her mother.
John D. Stegemann attends a merger meeting in Minneapolis as a delegate of the Iowa District of the American Lutheran Church. A new body named The American Lutheran Church will unite three synods, totaling about 2.4 million members with headquarters in Minneapolis. The event includes a Day of Thanksgiving on Sunday April 24 and a Year of Jubilee to celebrate ten years of negotiations.
