Northwestern College hosts two guest speakers for alumni banquet and student assembly

The Rev. Harold Vande Berg a Church of South India missionary will speak at Northwestern College Alumni Banquet on May 28. He studies Greek there with Dr. Sylvio Scorza during furlough and has lived as a missionary in India since 1946, based in Adoni Andhra State.

Morningside Exposition Showcases 65 Students Projects

Morningside College hosts its 33rd annual science exposition on April 28 and 29 with about 65 college students and Siouxland high school pupils presenting 44 demonstrations. Exhibits span three floors of A. W. Jones Hall with physics bio chemistry and home economics displays and an electro telescope observatory open for inspection. A rocket demonstration will occur on the campus lawn alongside the exhibits.

Census Takers Set April 20 to Count Floaters

District Supervisor Gordon C. Hollar announced a special 1960 Census drive with squads and crew leaders fanning out on the night of April 20 to locate people without fixed addresses. Takers will visit missions theaters and city parks to ensure all residents are counted and remind that 18 plus must answer. confidentiality is guaranteed and penalties for noncompliance include fines or jail.

Hull Christian School Plans 36 by 60 Addition

At a recent Hull Christian School society meeting, members approved a 36 by 60 foot addition to the east of the current building. The two-room expansion will include a hall, costing about $20,000, with construction planned to start around May 1.

At the April P T A meeting in Boyden the Boyden Hull Community School elects Dr H Paul Borks of Hull as president Henry Reavers of Boyden as vice president and Mrs Glenn Vande Garde of Boyden as secretary treasurer Plans for the annual Summer Round Up of pre school children were made with the date May 5 set and details to follow in next week’s paper.

St John Lutheran Church to Build New Sanctuary

St John Lutheran Church will break ground for a new sanctuary four miles north of Boyden. The project, designed by Phorson Gjelten and Schellberg Architects of Forest City, Iowa, is valued at 100000 dollars. Schuster Construction Company of Worthington Minnesota has the contract. Groundbreaking ceremonies are set for Sunday April 24 at 1130 am after worship. Construction starts immediately.

HiWay Drive In Opens for Summer Season

Mrs. Duistermars opened the Hull HiWay Drive In for the summer season last Friday afternoon. The popular eating place has had very good business so far with hours from 3 30 p m each weekday except Saturday and from 1 p m on Saturdays until school ends. After that opening hours will be announced.

The Lincoln Merry Maidens gathered at Judy Waanders home on April 4. They opened with the 4-H pledge and learned blouse construction details from Janyce Vander Berg and Mary Zoet. Judges from Rock Valley named Carole Van Roekel best groomed, Ruth Hensch second. Next meeting planned for May 3 at Hendrene and Mary Zoet’s home. Seven members and two leaders attended. Merger Meeting Of Lutheran Church Forming New Body

John D. Stegemann attends a merger meeting in Minneapolis as a delegate of the Iowa District of the American Lutheran Church. A new body named The American Lutheran Church will unite three synods, totaling about 2.4 million members with headquarters in Minneapolis. The event includes a Day of Thanksgiving on Sunday April 24 and a Year of Jubilee to celebrate ten years of negotiations.
