Des Moines Gov. John Hammill designated April 29 as Arbor Day in Iowa and urged Iowans to plant at least one tree that day or during American Forest Week April 24 to 30 nationwide.
The Parent-Teacher meeting for the month has been postponed until the regular meeting on the second Wednesday evening of May. Miss Margaret Buren of George was an over Sunday guest in the parental home here.
A new law ends the annual publication of automobile license delinquent lists. Instead of printing names, the county treasurer will mail notices in mid April asking owners to pay by May first. failing payment, the list is sent to the county sheriff for collection.
Iowa plates for 1928 will have black characters on white. W M Calladay, head of the state motor vehicle department, says plates are being produced by inmates at Anamosa reform school. Two carloads have been shipped to county treasurers for storage until needed.
The Boyden High School Alumni Association schedules a meeting next Monday April 25 at 7 30 PM in a local hotel. Members are urged to attend.
John Versteeg as receiver for Citizens Bank of Hospers lists assets and liabilities totaling 224 710 06 for Hospers bank including notes 183 054 29 with significant real estate and mortgage figures. Matlock Bank assets total 105 368 22 with bills receivable 92 432 28 and substantial deposits. court orders release of deposit box contents and allows deed securities actions. New cases include a foreclosure claim by Lewis Youngers against B A Haag and a wage assignment in a Smith deserted family case. Volstead loan dispute noted.
Farmers Co operative Creamery Company of Boyden Iowa urges patrons to buy cooling tanks now to keep cream sweet and boost butter quality and price. The tanks cost 15 40 and can pay for themselves within one to two months based on monthly butterfat production.
The sub county declamatory contest at Rock Valley Wednesday evening saw Boyden School take two firsts while Hull School earned one. Alma Heltritter won humorous, Lorraine McCrum dramatic, and Hull won oratorical. Competitors ranged seventh and eighth graders.
Sheldon Iowa seeks a municipal light plant. City council schedules May 4 special election for a $35,000 bond to build a plant with Fairbanks Morse financing the balance. Total cost estimated at about $90,000 with diesel engines on water works grounds.
Engagement announced by Mr and Mrs Martin Mischke of Crofton Nebraska for their daughter Myrtle Edith to Gerrit Vander Horst of Sioux City. The couple plans a May wedding after which they will reside in Sioux City. Miss Mischke attended Morningside College. Vander Horst is a Boyden high school grad now employed in Sioux City.
